We believe that every person, no matter their past or circumstance, deserves an opportunity to rise again be seen, heard, and supported Destiny Changers Foundation is an incorporated organization that was founded by Pastor Joyce E. After witnessing a large number of homeless people in her salon's neighborhood, she realized that any one could be homeless. Many who were in this predicament were not

the source of their own misfortune. As a result, Destiny Changers Foundation was founded in January 2011 with a commitment to put an end to this societal plague. Empowering those facing homelessness with the right skills would be the powerful tool that could be used to get them off the streets and on the path to independence. Destiny Changers then designed a scholarship award that ranges from $500.00 to $1,000.00 for use toward obtaining a license in cosmetology or barbering. Those who are interested should complete and submit an application and demonstrate that they are trying to become productive members of society or that they have lost their primary source of income. When there are no qualified applicants from the homeless population, the scholarships can then be awarded to first-time offenders, exotic dancers and displaced homemakers. Destiny Changers Foundation is an all-volunteer organization and has no paid staff. Funding is provided through donations and grants from the general public, the government and from other nonprofit organizations.

Today was another reminder that community health happens one person, one family, and one conversation at a time.

At Destiny Changers Foundation Inc. June 27 Food Pantry, we served 68 participants, distributed 70 bags of food and 20 bags of chicken, and provided a total of 762 pounds of food to individuals and families in our community.

The numbers matter, but they only tell part of the story.

Throughout my career in behavioral health, community mental health, and population health, I've learned that food insecurity is rarely just a food issue. It affects physical health, behavioral health, employment stability, academic performance, stress levels, and overall quality of life.

Healthcare leaders often discuss social determinants of health, but for many families, those determinants become very real when deciding whether to pay for food, transportation, housing, medications, or other basic necessities.

What stood out most today wasn't the food distribution. It was the conversations. Many prayers were requested, and many prayers were given. Those moments serve as a reminder that communities need both practical support and human connection.

Organizations like Destiny Changers Foundation play an important role in bridging those gaps by meeting immediate needs while helping build stronger, healthier communities.

A few observations continue to hold true:
• Community health begins long before someone enters a healthcare setting.
• Addressing social determinants is often preventative care.
• The strongest communities are built through service, partnership, and compassion.

Grateful for the volunteers, supporters, and community members who made today possible.
