AIDS Memorial Project of Northeast Florida It is the legacy and suffering of these people, that have lead us to present day, where HIV is no longer the death sentence it was earlier believed to be.

AMP is dedicated to build & maintain a memorial to people who have died from complications of AIDS related diseases & a living monument for those infected/affected by HIV. We bear witness to the early passing of these individuals marginalized by society—victims of a political system, that at the time stigmatized their existence because of a diagnosis. HIV/AIDS positive individuals found themselves

frequently destitute, homeless, truly dependent on the kindness of friends, when family and loved ones, abandoned them to a hostile and fearful community. The inequities and lack of preparation of the medical community to truly handle these complex medical conditions from an AIDS diagnosis compounded these issues for those living with this disease. AMP was launched to pay homage to these brave and frequently disregarded members of our society, through a living memorial that we will create and maintain with support from our community at large.

The Board of Directors of AMP kindly requests your participation in carrying a name of one of the thousands of area residents lost to AIDS related diseases. This is a great and sacred honor. These victims were our family, friends, neighbors, leaders, teachers, students and activists. They were brave when confronting their eminent death. It is their broad shoulders that we proudly stand upon today. Please consider joining us as we march during River City Pride this October. For more information, please contact a Board member.

Zero HIV Stigma Day is observed globally on July 21 to challenge harmful stereotypes and promote the dignity of people living with HIV. The AHF campaign—themed "United Towards Zero"—highlights the importance of the Undetectable Equals Untransmittable (U=U) scientific consensus.The grassroots movement, originally initiated by NAZ and the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC), urges communities, healthcare systems, and individuals to dismantle the prejudice that acts as a barrier to testing and treatment.

Joe Steineck had a plant to remember his friend, Maria Taylor who passed away a year and a half ago with ALS. She was a very involved Ally with our community doing hospice work for PWA and also doing HIV testing in the earlier 80s as well as monthly contributions to PFLAG.
Linda was very active with PFLAG for at least 10 years.
She got involved, maybe 93/94 when her son Scott came out, served as president and remained active until she passed 20 years/5 months ago in 2006.
The AIDS Memorial Project of Northeast Florida is always pleased to welcome this remembrance for our community. And thank.you Joe for helping to beautify this historic park.
