Today, the Peace Corps announced a new initiative, called Tech Corps, to โ€œrecruit, train and deploy skilled Americans to support the adoption of artificial intelligence in Peace Corps host countries participating in the American AI Exports Program.โ€ The initiative was announced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 by Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology.

According to acting Peace Corps Director Richard E. Swarttz, โ€œBy building technical capacity, supporting AI adoption across critical use cases, and addressing barriers to last-mile AI implementation, Tech Corps volunteers will leverage American AI to expand access to opportunity and prosperity.โ€

Join FCRPCVs at the Silent March on January 19th in St Augustine!

The 41st Annual Silent March honoring the national holiday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the longest running celebrations in the state of Florida. In 1986, the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida met in St. Augustine to launch the state's recognition of the national holiday for Dr. King.

On Monday, January 19th, please join us for the Silent March at 9:00 am, beginning at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church lot (86 MLK Ave)to the Plaza de la Constitucion with speaker Apostle Earl Glisson of Anchor Faith Church, St. Augustine, FL and performances by the Tri-county Gospel Chorale. All are welcome to join! There is plenty of parking. The walk is less than 1 mile. There will be speeches and music in the square after the march. We can go for breakfast or coffee afterwards.

The theme for the Silent March is "Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly," a direct quote from Dr. King's speech while receiving the Noble Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway in 1964.

Please let us know if you plan to attend the March with us and if you do, please wear your Peace Corps gear! Here is a pic of a few of us from the event last year. We hope to see you there. โœŒ๏ธ

A poem for the holidays by Ada Jo Mann (Chad 1967-69)

Shared via Greg Emerson on Dec 25, 2025 on the Peace Corps Worldwide, Substack App.

To get into the holiday spirit, weโ€™re sharing a poem by Ada Jo Mann (Chad 1967-69) from her forthcoming book of poetry. Her first book of poetry, Words Create Worlds, was published with Peace Corps Writers in 2023.

Xmas in Chad

Twas the night before Christmas
in Fort Archambault Chad
The time was the sixties
So long, long ago

No stockings were hung
but our lanterns were lit
Presents from home had arrived via ship

We sat on our porch
and searched for the star
that had guided the wise men
who travelled so far

When suddenly off in the distance
we heard the comforting sound
of the once-a-week flight
bringing goodies galore
for this Christmas night
We jumped on our bikes
No time for a pause
We were so more than ready
for our African Claus
