Our Story

Hello, My name is Serena and I am the founder of WMNPG. I am the mother of three lovely children, one of which has mosaic down syndrome. It's beneficial to share our stories, so here is mine. Our daughter Isabel was diagnosed the day after her 3rd birthday. After a couple of years trying to figure out why she just wasn't up to speed on pretty much everything, we finally got an answer. I heard everything from, just let her be she'll come around to maybe she's autistic, you name it. With mosaic DS, as I understand it, the regular down syndrome testing done on an individual usually comes back negative. Further testing is required to find this. I remember being up late one night and Isabel was a little over one year old, I remember searching and searching for anything that sounded like what she was doing/acting like. I ended up reading about down syndrome. I clicked on this video of a little baby boy crawling along the floor and I just started crying. He looked exactly like my Izzy. He crawled the same strange way she was. She didn't "look" like she had DS so I knew everyone would think I was nuts. I did ask the Dr. at her next visit for a DS test and she agreed but was sure it would come back negative....and it did. So later, after a slight hissy fit LOL, I had more testing done elsewhere. That's when the mosaic was found. Mosaic DS is one of the types of DS a person can have and it is rare. It affects every one who has it differently and there are some people who may have it and not even know because it's so mild. Isabel does have light sensitivity and it was one of the first things I noticed about her. Being a photographer and trying to get her picture was frustrating at times. The idea of a sweet environment with understanding photographers and assistance crossed my mind. Families need this. Everyone deserves a beautiful portrait on their wall, and we can get it for you!

WMNPG offers events for families with children with special needs and beautiful portraits at no cost. Photographing children with sensitivities can be challenging but we have made it our mission to provide excellent portraits especially for our special needs community.
