Dear Meninak Family,

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, we received the news that our Executive Director, our friend, and our steadfast champion, Cathy Hill, passed away while vacationing in Maine as many of you know. We are grateful for the memories, words of appreciation, and ideas shared at our Monday, June 22, 2026 meeting on how we will continue serving our community in her honor.

Family Updates

Kerry Varkomfa spoke with Cathy's daughter, Christy, yesterday. The family will return to Jacksonville the week following the Fourth of July, after cremation has taken place. Memorial service plans have not yet been finalized, and we will share details as soon as they are available.

Looking Ahead

We will not hold our regular meeting on Monday, July 6, in observance of our July 4th break. We will reconvene on Monday, July 13, where we look forward to welcoming Chris Folds, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, as our speaker. In the meantime, please continue to hold Cathy's family, her friends, and all those who loved her in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear Meninak and Community Friends,

On Sunday, June 21, we received heartbreaking news. Our Executive Director, our friend, our steadfast champion, Cathy Hill passed away while vacationing in Maine.

For 42 years Cathy showed up for Meninak and each of us with grace, passion, and an open heart. She was the kind of leader who remembered everyone’s name, who cared deeply about the work we do together, and who never lost sight of why Meninak exists. Meninak serves, connects, and makes our Jacksonville community better.

Those of us fortunate enough to work alongside her know that her fingerprints are on everything good we have built. She was the thread that held so much of this together. We are a stronger, more connected, and more impactful organization because of Cathy.

As we learn more about her family’s plans and any ways you might help, we will provide more information.

Please hold Cathy’s family, friends, and all those who loved her in your thoughts.
