We’re excited to announce a new chapter!

✨ The WeaveTales program is officially joining the Refugee Congress.
Since 2019, WeaveTales has trained hundreds of storytellers and reached over 2 million people worldwide. Now, our work will continue—and grow—within an organization led entirely by people who have experienced forced displacement.
This is not an ending. It’s an expansion.

Meet our Guest Speaker: Lourena Gboeah ✨

Lourena Gboeah is the Program Director for Upwardly Global New York, a national organization dedicated to eliminating systemic employment barriers for immigrant and refugee professionals and integrating their skills into the U.S. workforce.
A resettled refugee from Liberia, Lourena came to the United States at the age of four after her family fled the civil war and ongoing harassment from government forces. Her lived experience drives her lifelong commitment to equity, inclusion, and opportunity for marginalized communities.

With more than a decade of experience serving vulnerable populations, Lourena has worked extensively across the immigration and refugee resettlement sectors. Before joining Upwardly Global, she served as Associate Director of Student Services at Year Up Philadelphia, where she led program development and built strategic partnerships with community-based organizations addressing mental health, housing, parenting, financial stability, and substance use challenges.
