Tonight, we welcome Cohort 10 of Dear Black Girl, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue creating space for women to heal, grow, rediscover themselves, and step boldly into who they’re becoming.

Ten cohorts later, the mission remains the same: healing the inner girl while empowering the woman.

Purpose doesn’t have an expiration date.

Meet Lavette E. a proud Dear Black Girl alumna, devoted mother, entrepreneur, Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN student, softball coach, and founder of Game Changer – Change the Game. Change Your Life. She is also the owner of Indelible Creations, where she uses her creativity to serve families, businesses, and organizations throughout her community.

For more than 15 years, Lavette has faithfully cared for others as a CNA. Today, she’s continuing her journey by pursuing her nursing degree, proving that it’s never too late to answer God’s call on your life or pursue the purpose He’s placed within you.

While her accomplishments are inspiring, her greatest transformation has been the woman she’s becoming.

As a Dear Black Girl alumna, Lavette chose to invest in her healing, her growth, and her relationship with God. Through faith, perseverance, and a heart committed to serving others, she continues to impact lives in her home, on the softball field, in healthcare, and throughout her community.

Her story is a reminder that healing isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about becoming the woman God created you to be all along.

She is living proof that when you choose Jesus, choose healing, and choose yourself, everything else begins to align. There is beauty in trusting God’s timing, embracing the process, and walking boldly in the purpose He has ordained for your life.

Dear Black Girl Alumni Highlight:

Markesha

Success doesn’t always look like a corner office or owning a business.

Sometimes, success looks like healing, finding your footing again, and becoming the woman your family needs.

When Markesha joined Dear Black Girl, she was navigating one of life’s most difficult seasons—grieving, adjusting to a new marriage, and continuing to show up every day for the people she loves most.

Through it all, she never stopped growing.

Since completing Dear Black Girl, Markesha has become a Certified Nursing Assistant and has spent the last year serving others through compassionate care. Today, she’s considering taking the next step by pursuing the LPN Bridge Program through Brooks Rehabilitation, continuing to invest in both herself and her future.

But if you ask us, one of Markesha’s greatest accomplishments isn’t found in a job title.

It’s the love, stability, and strength she pours into her home every single day.

She is the kind of woman who reminds us that being present for your family, choosing healing, and continuing to grow—even through grief—is something worth celebrating.

At Dear Black Girl, we believe every woman’s journey matters.

Dear Black Girl Alumni Highlight: Neshell Kee

Sometimes the biggest transformation isn’t what you accomplish—it’s how you begin to think.

When Neshell Kee completed the Dear Black Girl program, she made one life-changing decision:

She changed her circle.

She intentionally surrounded herself with people who challenged her, encouraged her, and inspired her to grow. That one decision became the catalyst for everything that followed.

Since graduating from Dear Black Girl, Neshell has earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Edward Waters University, launched Speedy Express Distribution LLC, providing courier services throughout the state of Florida, and now serves her community as a Relationship Banker, helping individuals and families build financial knowledge, create wealth, and make informed investment decisions.

But ask Neshell what made the biggest difference, and she’ll tell you it wasn’t just the degree or the business.

It was the personal growth.

“Your class changed me mentally, and I’m so glad I had the chance to experience Dear Black Girl!”

Danielle Lewis

Success doesn’t always begin with a perfect plan.

Sometimes it begins with a woman who refuses to give up.

Meet Danielle Lewis, a proud Dear Black Girl alumna, entrepreneur, mentor, and owner of Fresh & Clean Cleaning Service.

Like so many women, Danielle was balancing multiple responsibilities at once. She was working full-time for a major insurance company, raising two children as a single mother, and carrying the dream of building something that belonged to her.

Instead of waiting for the “right time,” she started where she was.

What began as a part-time cleaning business grew into Fresh & Clean Cleaning Service, a thriving business built on consistency, hard work, and faith. Along the way, Danielle celebrated one of her proudest accomplishments—helping her daughter successfully complete four years of college while continuing to build her business and provide for her family.

But Danielle’s impact doesn’t stop there.

Today, she intentionally creates space for other women who are trying to build businesses while balancing motherhood, careers, and life’s everyday challenges. She mentors aspiring entrepreneurs, encourages women not to give up on their dreams, and reminds them that success isn’t about having an easy journey—it’s about staying committed to the one God has given you.

Danielle’s accomplishments are inspiring, but they’re only part of her story.

She is also a Dear Black Girl alumna who chose to invest in her personal development. Through Dear Black Girl, she joined a community of women committed to healing, accountability, and growth—because building a successful life begins by building the woman first.

That’s the heart of Dear Black Girl.

💜 Dear Black Girl Alumni Highlight: Tori Lundy

At Dear Black Girl, we believe healing and personal development are not the destination—they're the foundation.

Today's Alumni Highlight celebrates Tori, a proud Dear Black Girl alumna whose journey reminds us that when a woman commits to becoming her best self, there is no limit to what she can accomplish.

Tori is a Jacksonville-based entrepreneur, attorney, minister, educator, actress, and community leader. She is the visionary behind **Mandatori Makeup, MandaTori Hosting, Mandatori Document Solutions, and GIF (God Intended Friends)**—a women's ministry centered on faith, healing, authentic connection, and growth.

Her commitment to excellence has led her to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Florida A&M University, earn a Master's Degree in Applied Social Science, complete her Juris Doctor, and continue pursuing a Master of Divinity at Virginia Union University, where she currently maintains an outstanding 4.3 GPA.

While these accomplishments are extraordinary, they are only part of her story.

Tori is also a Dear Black Girl alumna who chose to invest in her personal development. Through the Dear Black Girl experience, she joined a community of women committed to healing, self-discovery, accountability, and growth. That journey became another building block in the incredible legacy she continues to create.

Today, Tori pours into others through ministry, entrepreneurship, education, beauty, mentorship, and service—helping women and young girls discover confidence, strengthen their faith, embrace their purpose, and believe in what's possible.

Her story is exactly why Dear Black Girl exists.

Not because we create successful women.

Because we create spaces where successful women continue to heal, grow, and become even more of who God created them to be.

Every woman featured in our Alumni Highlight Series has her own unique journey, gifts, and accomplishments. Yet they all share one thing in common:

Dear Black Girl Alumni Highlight:
Lorna Brown

When Lorna Brown joined Dear Black Girl, life felt heavy.

She was recovering from major surgery, struggling financially, and trying to hold everything together as a single mother of four daughters. One daughter had just been released from a week-long hospital stay, while her younger daughters faced health challenges that would eventually require surgeries of their own.

She was exhausted.

Like many women, Lorna knew how to fight for everyone else. She fought for her children. She fought for her family. She fought to keep going.

What she didn’t realize was that she needed to fight for herself, too.

“I entered Dear Black Girl hoping for a miracle. What I discovered instead was something even more valuable: transformation through inner work.”

Through the healing process, Lorna learned to forgive herself, release guilt, let go of past pain, and understand that prioritizing herself wasn’t selfish—it was necessary.

That healing changed everything.

It inspired her to write a book, elevated her nursing career, and helped grow LB Career Coaching & Services into a thriving consultancy dedicated to helping others build fulfilling and financially rewarding careers.

Today, Lorna continues to serve as a mother, nurse, entrepreneur, author, caregiver, and community leader—but perhaps her greatest accomplishment is that she finally learned to show up for herself.

Her story is proof that when a woman heals, every area of her life can transform.
