The hardest part of college move-in week is handing over control and trusting that they’ll be okay.

For eighteen years, you handled every detail.

You prayed over their health, guided their choices, and kept them safe under your roof.

Now, as you drive off campus, it's completely normal to feel anxious about everything you can no longer control.

But here’s what to keep in mind today: You were never meant to hold onto them forever. You were meant to prepare them.

Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

Letting go is simply trusting the One who loves them even more than you do.

When you can't be in the room to protect them, remember that God is already there.

You did your job planting the seeds. Now trust the foundation you built together.

𝗧𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁.

Right now, thousands of parents across the country are dropping their children off at college.

They're unpacking the last box, giving one final hug in a dorm parking lot, and starting that quiet drive back home.

𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀.

When we talk about why students leave college, most people guess the same things.

They think the schoolwork got too hard. Or they think the tuition costs too much.

But if you ask the people who work on campus, they will tell you a totally different story.

You see, for students who come from low-income families, the biggest problem is a sudden $500 bill that they just can't pay.

In fact, studies show that almost 40% of American families cannot cover a sudden $400 emergency with savings.

So when a college student is living on a super tight budget, a small surprise bill becomes a giant crisis.

Think about what actually happens...

-A tire pops on the way to an internship.

-A laptop screen breaks three days before a big project is due.

-Or worse, a small $300 fee gets added to their account, which stops them from signing up for next term's classes.

When students don't have extra money saved up, they don't have a safety net.

So they pick up extra night shifts at work, fall behind in school, and end up dropping out right before they finish.

And that is why emergency micro-grants are such a game-changer.

A tuition scholarship is great because it gets a smart student through the front door.

But small emergency money is what actually keeps them in class until they graduate.

When nobody in your family has done this before, you end up learning everything the hard way

A few things most people wish someone had told them sooner

𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀: Did you know you shouldn't buy every book before class even starts? Half your professors won't even open them, and the campus library usually keeps copies on reserve for free

𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀: Did you know professors' office hours aren't just for when you're failing? The students who drop by in week two just to introduce themselves are the ones who get research spots and recommendation letters later

𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀: Did you know most universities have emergency grant money set aside? If your laptop breaks or an unexpected fee pops up, you don't always have to pay out of pocket; there's usually a fund for that if you ask the financial aid office

You shouldn't have to figure all of this out by trial and error

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

You grow, and some stuff just stops fitting...a job, an old habit, a way you used to think about things.

And when that happens, trying to force yourself back into it doesn't actually make you feel better. It just makes you feel stuck.

And honestly, staying small takes more effort than just moving on does.

Walking into a new room where you're not the smartest one there, where you don't have it all figured out yet, is kinda scary.

But that's usually the sign something's actually happening.

Because if everything around you still feels easy, nothing's changing.

Don't stick around somewhere just because you know it well.

Stick around if it's still doing something for you.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁!

I know it's usually not the math that keeps you up, but the digging through old tax folders, resetting passwords three times in a row, and reading fine print that makes no sense.

And underneath all of that, there's just that fear that checking the wrong box is somehow going to mess up your kid's future.

Nobody actually walks you through this until you're already stuck in it.

And it doesn't matter if this is your first senior or your third child going to college...

The forms are still confusing, the deadlines come out of nowhere, and you're still trying to figure it out after a full workday and making dinner.

Here’s how to save your sanity before forms even open...

𝟭. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
When applications opens, don't sit down trying to finish everything in one night.
Fill out one single section, save it, and take break if you need to.
The applications are built to be done in pieces and treating it like one massive task is what makes it feel overwhelming.

𝟮. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.
The part that actually wastes your time isn't the financial questions.
It’s trying to remember which password you created three weeks ago at 10 PM.
So, grab a notebook today and write down every username, student ID, and password for both you and your child in one place.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸.
If a question confuses you, don't sit there guessing.
Call the college directly. Answering these exact questions is their full-time job, and they’d genuinely rather walk you through it now than fix an error on a form later.

See, you don't need a finance background to get your child through this.

You just need three small habits and a little bit of lead time.

𝗧𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗱'𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱.

A lot of the time, we aren't frustrated because we're failing.
We're just tired of waiting.
We want the answer to our prayers right now, without going through the waiting in between.

But you see, God works in seasons. Some seasons are for big steps and clear wins
Others are just for praying, keeping your head down, and staying faithful when nothing seems to be changing.

If it looks like everyone around you is moving faster, don't panic.
You can't force a harvest overnight, and you can't rush what God is building in your life.

Do what you can today, pray about what you can't control, and take a breath.
God isn't late with your life.
