🔥⚠️ FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR CHEROKEE COUNTY ⚠️🔥

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Friday, October 16, from 10:00AM Friday through 1:00AM Saturday for portions of East and Northeast Texas, including Cherokee County.

Conditions could become favorable for fires to start and spread quickly due to:

💨 North winds 10–20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph
💧 Low humidity between 25–45%
🌾 Critically dry vegetation

Because of these conditions, outdoor burning is NOT recommended. Even a small fire could spread rapidly.
Please use extra caution with anything that could create a spark or flame, and continue to monitor weather updates as Friday approaches.

According to the Cherokee County Judge's office this morning (Thursday, Sept. 3), the burn ban issued by commissioners Aug. 11 remains in effect.

From September 1, 2025 to August 30th 2026 we have been paged to 179 emergency calls. These calls range from medical assistance, car wrecks, house / structure fires, grass / woodland fires, equipment / car fires, natural gas / propane leaks, locked cars and any other 911 calls we can assist with. For a volunteer department this can be a struggle for many reasons. 1 we are all volunteer meaning that we all have jobs and we all have family life. With the number of volunteers decreasing across the country it is difficult in different times of the day to have enough people to safely work a scene of any magnitude. With that being said we rely on mutual aid help from our brothers and sisters from across Cherokee County and surrounding Counties to help. This leads me to my second point. It takes a lot of financial help to make a fire department operate. From fuel cost to truck repair, insurance, proper tools for each specific call, our gear to keep us as safe as possible on each call, and building maintenance to keep our equipment in the best shape we can so we are ready to respond each time the call comes in. It takes a lot of fuel just to respond in our own coverage area but when we go assist other departments that doubles the fuel cost for each apparatus that responds. We are extremely grateful for all the support and donations from our community. It has truly helped.

I just wanted to clear up any confusion. We had to postpone our FISH FRY. The new date is October 3, 2026!!! It takes a lot of preparation and a lot of people to put on this size of an event. We thought it best instead of canceling all together to postpone due to our Volunteers being extremely busy this year and not having a lot of help getting everything ready. We really appreciate our community and look forward to this every year and we can't wait to see you all on October 3rd 2026!!!
