Sometimes I get to work with Florida Youth Maritime Training graduates. Mr. Flowers is sailing with me on a boat delivery from Green Cove Springs FL to Kemah TX. I have been giving him some wheel time training and now he isn’t sure if he wants to go the Engineer route or the Captain route

I want to thank and acknowledge Cox Automotive Group’s donation of over 200 man hours of a diesel technician. Their generous donation has enabled us to continue to offer vocational training to disadvantaged youth at risk and underserved youth to become employed in the maritime sector. The technician, Chad, has been busy helping us service our training vessels.

Florida Youth Maritime Training is pleased to announce that it has entered an agreement with Florida Department of Children and Families to provide training to youth exiting the foster care system. The youth that take our ABYC “Introduction to Marine Service Technology “ course will also be taught ABYC Standards which include Composite Boat Building.
FYMT recently acquired the mold for a Swampscott Dory which is one of the boats the students will be building.
The boats will be offered to other non-profits to help with their fundraising as well as the general public.

We will be starting on Saturday Feb 11 at 10am at the William "Bill" Gulliford Community Center located at 4875 Ocean Street in Mayport. FYMT will be starting another merchant seamen class on July 18. We have 4 prospective students from Quench The Violence including one woman, 2 students from Lutheran Social Services, 5 from MADDADS and one woman referred by a former student. We look forward to helping these young people change their lives. We are also fortunate to have established apprenticeship programs with two tugboat companies
