Prevention is widely recognized as an effective, efficient, and economically sound approach because it stops complications before they start, maximizes limited resources, and delivers a massive return on investment.

Preventing child abuse and neglect means meeting parents exactly where they are while also putting the health and safety of children first. Prevention makes keeping children and families together—safely—the top priority in any child welfare system.

There is a common misconception that child welfare intervention is primarily about the most extreme and heartbreaking cases that make headlines. Those cases do require immediate action. But the reality is that many families who come to the attention of child welfare—and drive up unmanageable caseload numbers—are facing challenges that could have been addressed much earlier with the right supports in place: a parent overwhelmed by circumstances, a family without stable housing or child care, a medical emergency, or a caregiver without anyone to call for help.

But we have also witnessed the opposite: when families receive timely support—safe child care during moments of crisis, access to basic necessities, connection to resources, and ongoing community-based support—the outcome changes drastically. Families stabilize. Parents gain confidence and tools. Children remain safely connected to the people who love them, and the child welfare system has no reason to get involved.

This is why we exist. Children Safe. Families Together.

Last week some of our staff went to the Safe Families for Children National Conference in Wisconsin! They got to spend time collaborating, learning, and helping shape how Safe Families will be helping those in need in the coming year so that there is “No Family Alone” in our communities.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Safe Families for Children (SFFC) stands alongside survivors. Our mission is to keep children safe and surround families facing crisis with a supportive community.

By offering a safe, temporary home for children and a network of extended family-like support for parents, we give moms and dads the breathing room they need to seek help, find safety, and rebuild their lives.

We are loving seeing God move through the people at The Church of Eleven22 during Saturated! As people talk with us about the needs for families in the community, they are joining our movement in an effort to prevent children from entering the child welfare system unnecessarily. They are taking the next steps to provide extended family-like support to those in their own community who find themselves in social isolation. And we couldn’t be more thrilled! Last night was dedicated to sharing the heart of what Safe Families is all about…keeping children safe and families together! Thank you so much for bringing awareness to families in the community who need some extra love, guidance, and support in order to provide healthy, safe, and stable homes for their children. Each month, 17 King American Bistro | St. Augustine selects a local nonprofit to sponsor and support, and we’re excited to share that Safe Families Northeast Florida is their featured nonprofit for September!

Throughout September, 50% of the proceeds from every featured “Safe and Sound” Old Fashioned will be donated directly to Safe Families. Guests can also make an additional donation to Safe Families by adding it directly to their bill.
