Our tradition tells us that tonight, something extraordinary will happen: the gates will open, and we will be called to take stock of the past year, both individually and collectively.

Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection and anticipation. We look back on and evaluate the past year in order to correct our actions to make a better year to come. We imagine ourselves in the past and in the future simultaneously.

As we live in the presence of the day of awe, we are asked to make amends. Both for our actions as individuals and for the actions of our larger community. We ask ourselves: what harms have we caused or been witness to? And we also ask: What harms have been done to us, and what does it take to forgive?

We will take this time to pause, to reflect on our own shortcomings, and to dig into what it takes to build a better and brighter future for Jews and for all of us, together. We know there is work to do to bring about a sweeter world, and we commit ourselves to this work in 5785 and all the years to come.

We wish you and your families a sweet year, a blessed year, and a year filled with justice and peace.

The right is using all of their power to dismantle civil rights and undermine our democracy. They want us to be scared and feel powerless. But we have the popular will, we have our moral outrage, and we have our love for each other to build a country for all of us.
State legislatures across the country have been passing laws attacking voting rights and slashing access to reproductive healthcare for years.
At the same time, Republican senators — representing a minority of Americans — stole a Supreme Court seat from our first Black president. Then, they pushed through three justices appointed by a president who lost the popular vote by three million votes.
75% of Americans and 53% of Republicans believe the choice to get an abortion should be between the person and their doctor.
