The holidays can bring feelings of togetherness and enjoyment, but they can also be a time that brings up sadness, fear, grief, and loss.
It is okay to struggle during the holidays. It is okay to create new traditions and rituals. It is okay not to celebrate at all.

It is essential to remember these resources and share them during the holidays. Survivors may need additional support during this time.

Thank you Briana Roberts for your wise words.

Beyond legislation, how do we begin to address the culture of in homes, schools and communities? GBV is a type of brutal behavior. And hereโ€™s what I know; all behavior is learned and all behavior can be unlearned. - Khalil Osiris

Men have the responsibility to end gender based violence through the behavior theyโ€™re modeling and condoning for the boys in their lives.

When we think about abuse, physical and sexual abuse are the most universally identified. But those are part of a greater system of abuse at play.
Start the conversation on power and control and educate yourself and others to end gender based violence.
Name these issues, speak out against them and continue to take action.

Empathy, Objectification & Gender Based Violence by Jasmine Pabla
In many cases of , victims are blamed for their assault by critics who claim they were โ€œasking for itโ€ or โ€œbrought it upon themselves.โ€ Society points the finger at the victimโ€™s clothes, rather than the assaulter. Women are blamed for being objectified. Interestingly, advertisements, movies, television shows, and musical artists use this objectification to sell their product.
When individuals are objectified, they are seen as less moral, less intelligent, less human and given less empathy. When an individual is seen as less human, the likelihood of committing violent acts against them increases โ€“ they become part of an outgroup. For example, during wartime, violence is justified because enemy countries are considered โ€œthe otherโ€.

Have you got your tickets....!!! https://bit.ly/Tributetowomenandgirls
We are changing the narrative by showcasing the difference between a combative sport with rules and non-sensical violence. In tribute to women and girls, participating boxers have taken the TRC Pledge to End Gender Based Violence where they live. The TRC pledge breaks the silence around GBV and grows commitment to taking action to end GBV. Our boxers will stand as influencers on the day, and their pledges will be played before they enter the ring. TRC Founder, Khalil Osiris Khalil Osiris says, "The fact is, accountability in the fight to end GBV lies primarily with men. Events like these give us the opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of toxic masculinity and, hopefully, will encourage more men and young boys to take the TRC Pledge to end the violence against women and girls where they live."

We have 9 exciting fights lined up as well as a performance by popular artist, Tamar Dey. Our guest Judges include current ABU and Boxing South Africa Heavy Weight Title Holder, Chris Thompson and award-winning Actress, Zikhona Bali.

Attendees will take the TRC Pledge as a community and have the opportunity to record their pledges.

"Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. We often tell children to follow the โ€œgolden ruleโ€: treat others how you want to be treated. However, through our childhoods and adulthoods, we often find ourselves placing our own needs in front of the needs of others. It is important to model appropriate behaviors and provide language for children when they do not want others to invade their personal space. Providing these opportunities within the classroom environment will allow children to have healthy alternatives to negative emotions, which they may externalize through aggressive behaviors without a healthy outlet.

We often expect children to provide physical affection such as hugs or kisses without considering whether or not that is their preference. If an adult wants to say goodbye to a child with a hug or a kiss, they may feel entitled to affection, and their expectations may not take the childโ€™s wishes or comfort into account.
Developing an emotional vocabulary is essential in the formation of empathy. Preschool teachers should implement the practice of naming and identifying emotions. It should be discussed when a child is hungry, sick, angry, frustrated, sad, and happy. Saying things like: โ€œYou seem to be really upset right now. Can you think of a reason you might feel this way?โ€ Talking through emotions gives a child the vocabulary to articulate why they might be feeling the way they are and shows them that it is okay and essential to talk about feelings. Children are often inadvertently taught to suppress their feelings. They are told, โ€œdonโ€™t be scared,โ€ โ€œdonโ€™t cry,โ€ โ€œthereโ€™s nothing to worry about.โ€ While these statements are likely intended to assuage a negative emotion, it stifles the childโ€™s future emotional expression. By encouraging children to talk about their emotions, they can process them, reinforcing that other people care about how they are feeling."
