Since we won’t be meeting on October 22nd, we’re keeping our 4th Friday tradition alive with an evening of great conversation and community. 🎤 Proud of our Rotary family! 🎤

Our own Dan Griffin, a member of the Rotary Club of Bartram Trail - Julington Creek, spoke at the National Federation of the Blind of Florida Conference in Jacksonville on Saturday, October 10.

Dan shared his experience with Rotary, its purpose and mission. Dan also confirmed the Meta AI glasses for the blind project had been completed for 19 of the 20 requestors in our local area by way of a Rotary grant. The 20th unit will be provided in the near future.

Thank you, Dan, for representing our club and our community, and to the National Federation of the Blind for the invitation. This is Service Above Self in action. 👏

Our next Rotary Club of Bartram Trail - Julington Creek meeting features Trent Blair, Senior Director of Business Development & Memberships for the Jacksonville Icemen.

Trent joined the Icemen in 2018 and was named the ECHL’s first-ever Rookie Sales Executive of the Year after his first season, when the team set a league record for group sales. Now he helps lead the team’s business development and membership efforts.

🎙️ THANK YOU, AL! 🎙️

It’s always great to hear a presentation from a fellow Rotarian! Today, Al Kalter — member of the Rotary Club of Bartram Trail – Julington Creek — gave our club a shortened version of Lesson #1 from the course he teaches through UNF’s online OLLI program.

Al reminded us that rock and roll didn’t start in the 1950s like most of us assume — its roots run much deeper, tracing back through traditional slave chants and songs, up through gospel, and into R&B by early Black artists. It was an extraordinary look at music so familiar to all of us, yet so few people know the real history behind it — not with the depth and detail Al brings to it.

We deeply thank Al for giving his time and expertise to enlighten us today. What a fantastic program! 🎶

The Jacksonville Walk to End Alzheimer's is coming up on Saturday, November 7th in downtown Jacksonville, and the Rotary Club of Bartram Trail – Julington Creek is proud to field a team again this year!

This will be our fourth year walking, and we'd love to have you join us. Whether you want to walk with the team, make a donation, or simply spread the word to friends and family — every bit helps in the fight to end Alzheimer's.

🎙️ UPCOMING SPEAKER — Thursday, October 8th 🎙️

Mark your calendars, friends! Join the Rotary Club of Bartram Trail – Julington Creek this Thursday, October 8th at 7:30 AM in the River Lounge at Westminster Woods, as we welcome one of our very own — Al Kalter — for a fun look at his side gig as a radio DJ and his course at UNF's OLLI program!

🎵 On the Air (Sort Of): Meet Al Kalter, Radio DJ and UNF Course Instructor

For the past four years, Al has hosted "Old Guy Radio" on Spinnaker Radio, UNF's student-run station, spinning music from the 1960s and '70s every other Friday afternoon. That passion grew into something even bigger — a three-session course called "The History of Rock & Roll," which Al developed and taught through OLLI at UNF, and which he's teaching again this October!

Come hear Al share a snapshot of the course, swap some great stories, and maybe even hum along to a few golden oldies. 🎶

👯 BRING A FRIEND! This is a perfect chance for them to see what our club is all about — great fellowship, great programs, and members like Al who bring their passions to life both inside and outside the club.

🦁 THANK YOU, CURTIS! 🦁

The Rotary Club of Bartram Trail – Julington Creek extends a huge thank you to Curtis Dvorak of the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for joining our club this week as a guest speaker!

Curtis spoke so elegantly about the Zoo's significant recent improvements and some exciting ideas for the future. He shared details on the Zoo's $120 million "ReZOOvenation" project — a multi-phase transformation already underway, starting with the new VyStar SkyScape entrance and the expanded Manatee River habitat, which now has the capacity to care for more than 20 manatees at once. Curtis also touched on future plans in the works and continued expansion across the Zoo's campus in the years ahead. 🐘🦭

Thank you, Curtis, for sharing your time and your passion for the Zoo's mission with our club — we're excited to see what's next!

Members of the Rotary Club of Bartram Trail – Julington Creek enjoyed a special after-hours evening at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens! 🦓

A huge thank you to Al Kalter for making the arrangements for this fantastic outing. As Al shared: "If you haven't been to the Zoo recently, there are some incredible new exhibits there, including the amazing Manatee rehabilitation area, not to mention recent renovations for apes, tigers, and more. And getting to see some of the 'back areas' is truly unique."

What a wonderful evening of fellowship exploring everything the Zoo has to offer — thank you, Al, for putting this together!

Join the Rotary Club of Bartram Trail – Julington Creek on Thursday, October 1st as we welcome Curtis Dvorak, the official Ambassador Representative for the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens — better known as the "Wildlife Wanderer"!
Curtis stepped into this goodwill community role to help promote the Zoo's mission-based, non-profit conservation efforts and expand its presence right here in our community. His work includes:
🐾 Community Engagement — hosting special events and marketing campaigns that connect audiences of all ages with the Zoo, including massive interactive art installations like the popular Colors of the Wild silk lantern festival.
📺 Media & Broadcast Appearances — drawing on an extensive background in television and live entertainment, Curtis regularly appears on local news stations and podcasts to share new developments and animal updates.
🌿 Spotlighting Conservation Successes — showcasing major Zoo milestones such as the grand opening of the $72 million Manatee River habitat and the ongoing work of the Zoo's Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation program, which has returned dozens of rehabilitated manatees to the wild.
