For those in the Fletcher Class of 1976 our 50th reunion is approaching fast; in prep I was looking up folks that mattered back in our youth and found out sad news that our faculty sponsor Mr Brandhorst passed away in June 26. Great guy really gave the class offciers room to lead.
His obituary: Wayne William Brandhorst, 87, passed away on June 24 in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Jacksonville University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in teaching. Wayne was a popular history teacher for many years at Fletcher High School and was inducted into the Fletcher Teacher Hall of Honor in 2010. Wayne was a senior class faculty sponsor for many years. Wayne was a member of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church Beaches where he regularly attended mass. Wayne was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary D., parents Ernest and Nancy, brother Barry and nephew Joseph. He is survived by his sister Carol Chisler of Santa Rosa, California, nieces, nephews and other close family members. A special thanks to sunrise senior living for the patience and care they showed Wayne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society or Haven Hospice. Funeral services are scheduled for September 29 at 11am at Saint Paul’s Catholic Beaches with a reception to follow.
