On December 1, 2000, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Chief Warrant Officer Howard Brisbane Comer Jr., missing from the Vietnam War. Chief Warrant Officer Comer joined the U.S. Army from Florida and was a member of the 187th Aviation Company. On November 24, 1969, he piloted a UH-1H Iroquois (serial number 6815564) on a general support mission over Vietnam. The Iroquois crashed into the Vam Co Dung River during the mission, and CWO Comer was killed in the incident. Search and rescue teams that investigated the crash site were unable to locate his remains. In late 1993, a joint U.S. and Vietnamese search team received remains associated with CWO Comer's loss from a Vietnamese local. U.S. analysts identified the remains as those of CWO Comer in 2000. Chief Warrant Officer Comer is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. His name is also inscribed along with all his fallen comrades on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
