Proposed legislation HB 6022 does not address real problems, it is a solution in search of a problem. The reason why individuals sit in Michigan emergency rooms for hours or days is NOT because of untimely pre-admission screenings. Under the current system, Community Mental Health (CMH) entities successfully complete 98.5% of screenings within the required three-hour window.

The real problem is the critical lack of available inpatient beds across the state. If a screening is completed perfectly on time but there is no place for the patient to go, there is very little anyone can do. HB 6022 ignores this infrastructure shortage and disrupts a screening process that already works. Oppose HB 6022.
