Families As Allies

Families As Allies Our vision is that all children will have the opportunity to reach their potential and succeed

Families As Allies is an organization run by families of children with emotional and behavioral challenges for families of children with these challenges. The majority of our staff and board members are parents, grandparents and caregivers who have learned to navigate the system for our children and work for change whenever and wherever it is needed. We believe that every child should have the opp

ortunity to thrive at home, in school and in the community and that parents and caregivers have expertise and insight into what will most help their children. We also believe that children and families should receive the support and services they need to make their hopes and dreams for their children a reality.

Please be a sponsor for the National Federation of Families annual conference. Its a great way to get the word out about your organization and to support the work of this amazing group made up of families and other partners across the country. This theme of this year's conference is THE URGENCY OF NOW: ENDING ISOLATION BY CREATING EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY ECOSYSTEMS. We must work together to make sure children have the support they need to stay IN their homes and communities and OUT of residential treatment settings. Your sponsorship and your attendance can make things better for many children and families. Come join (and sponsor) us! https://www.ffcmh.org/conference-sponsor

If anyone wants to search Families as Allies, we are listed under both Mississippi Families as Allies and MS Families as Allies. Funds from the MS Department of Health are for supporting families of children with disabilities to advocate for their children and navigate systems and support the system in being more responsive to them . Funds from the MS Department of Mental Health are for development of and implementing all aspects of aspects of parent peer support training and coordinating the Hinds County MAP team. Funds from the MS Department of Human Services are to provide respite to families caring to a family member with significant disabilities. Most of those funds are for direct payments to the people providing the respite.

REMINDER: You can go to the Non-Profit Spending Dashboard under the "Reports" tab on our website and search any non-profit that received taxpayer funds over the last five years and the state agency that gave them the funds.

The dashboard will be updated to reflect 2026 payments when the information is available. Taxpayers deserve this kind of transparency.

Too often, we mistake presence for participation. We invite people with developmental and intellectual disabilities into rooms, have people sit at tables, and then move ahead without really making space for their thoughts, choices, or feelings. Inclusion is not measured by attendance. It is measured by whether someone is given a real way to be understood, and whether others take the time to listen. If you want to know whether someone was truly included, don’t ask if they were there. Ask if they were respected, heard, and able to influence what happened next.

Person with intellectual disability with a thought bubble: You talked TO me for an hour.
