Springboard to Opportunities is a nonprofit organization working alongside residents of federally subsidized housing as they pursue their goals in school, work, and life. Springboard is, first and foremost, a community partner committed to listening and responding to the needs and perspectives of families with limited financial resources. Through personalized navigation support, we connect residen

ts to essential services, coaching support, opportunities to build social capital, and much more. Resident relationships drive our work, ensuring that all programs and initiatives align with community voices and continuously evolve to meet residents’ shifting needs. Our strategic priorities focus on deepening residents’ socioeconomic well-being, shaping policy, disrupting harmful narratives, and expanding possibilities for low-income communities nationwide.

Our CEO, Aisha Nyandoro, published a new Forbes contribution today.

“If policymakers are serious about helping families thrive, they need to start by listening. Listen to Black women when they say financial stability creates joy. Listen when they say the safety net should not feel degrading. Listen when they say economic policy is not just about survival, but about the right to rest, to care, to hope and to enjoy life.

This Juneteenth, that is the definition of freedom we should be focused on. True liberation should mean more than endurance. It should mean a fair shot at security, rest and a life that is not perpetually one unexpected bill away from crisis.”

That’s exactly what we did when we formed the first ever cohort of . It’s now the longest-running guaranteed income program in the country for low-income Black mothers.

Black women in Mississippi are clear — they need more than survival. They need systems that create dignity, stability and joy.

New polling from and brilliant corners research shows that 90% of respondents say economic conditions are getting worse, more than half say their income is not keeping up with the cost of living and 76% say lawmakers rarely listen to people like them when designing programs.

These findings reinforce what Springboard has always known: when families have breathing room, they can build lives rooted in care, rest and possibility. Now it’s time for policymakers to take note and craft programs to create this reality beyond one community in one state, so that everyone has the opportunity to create a joyful life.
