Happy Thanksgiving! Today we wanted to highlight just how thankful we are for each and every one of you who help to cultivate & care for our beautiful neighborhood. Let’s give a round of applause to our Volunteer of the Season, Laura Wofford! 👏👏👏
“My husband, Walt, and I have lived in Belhaven for over 17 years now, and I cannot imagine living anywhere else in Jackson. The historic architecture of the homes, the proximity to two colleges, multiple schools, museums, parks, our own workplace, our home church, our kids’ school, fantastic restaurants, and now our vibrant town center are just a few of the things that have kept our family in Belhaven. But, I haven’t even mentioned the people!
Catching up with neighbors (and even friends who’ve driven “in” from the suburbs) at over ice cream at or a beer or while eating and listening to a local musician is almost a weekly occurrence for the Wofford household!
Seeing friends and neighbors, dog walkers and baby strollers while running our neighborhood streets, the , and the trails provides such a sense of community and wellbeing. And, though I’m a little sad that my kids are nearing the end of their playground days, we have spent many many days at our beloved Laurel Street Park. I could go on and on about how much I love this neighborhood, and so I’ve found ways to give back.
In years past I co-organized a “Diggin’ and Donuts” planting day at Belhaven park, as well as coordinated the bi-annual Art for the Park fundraiser. Most recently, I have loved being a part of GBF’s Committee, and leading volunteers on our neighborhood cleanup days. I’ve even started picking up trash when I’m out walking or running. I take pride in our neighborhood and want to do the best that I can to help maintain its value and vibrancy in the city of Jackson and in the state of Mississippi. That’s why we give of our time and money to help support the Greater Belhaven Foundation!”
