Last week, students from Teton Science Schools (TSS) came and helped Teton County W**d & Pest (TCWP) and Zach, the Jackson Hole Land Trust’s (JHLT) director of community conservation, with habitat restoration on High School Butte (HSB).

With precise delegation by Meta, TCWP’s education program coordinator, teams were assigned a site and given a set of plant plugs, shovels, gloves, and an ikea bag full of hay.

First a hole is drilled.

Plants plugs in question: pearly everlasting, Wyoming big sagebrush, antelope bitterbrush, woods rose, rubber rabbitbrush, blue bunch wheatgrass.

In this instance, the Wyoming big sagebrush plug is gently removed from its container and placed into the new hole.

Here Zach is emphasizing the importance of pressing the dirt firmly back into the hole so that there are no air pockets.

Finally, it is flagged and nested in with hay. All ready for winter to arrive.

If you see these flags, stakes, or markers please do not remove them.

For the past 6 years, TCWP has brought students out to HSB to pull weeds and the JHLT will continue to partner with them to help revegetate HSB.

Last week, the Green River Valley Program of the Jackson Hole Land Trust closed a permanent conservation easement on Wild Horse Ranch, a 233-acre working ranch 7.5 miles southwest of Boulder along the New Fork River.

Why does this one matter so much? Every spring and fall, migrating pronghorn squeeze through a narrow stretch of private land, aka a migration bottleneck, to cross the New Fork. Wyoming Game and Fish calls it the “heart” of their migration, and almost all of it runs through this ranch. 🦌

We did it!

This community will have access to open space on High School Butte, forever.

The results are in: 2,907 High School Butte hikes! 🥾

More than 1,000 community members stepped up, and thanks to a groundswell of local support, we raised the money to purchase the High School Butte trailhead property, plus an additional $30,000 to improve trails and restore habitat.

Heartfelt thanks to those of you who gave, hiked, and recognized the importance of easily accessible open space to this community.

Thank you to the local partners who sweetened the deal all week: La_Michoacana_JH , The Hub Bicycles Jackson Hole , Jackson Drug Original Soda Fountain , Grand Teton Brewing , happyhourbeerburros , BakeMeVegan , Snake River Roasting Co. , and Lululemon.

Lace 'em up, Jackson. 🥾

From Monday, September 28 to Saturday, October 3, the Jackson Hole Land Trust is hosting Boot up the Butte, a six-day hike-a-thon to permanently protect public access to High School Butte.

Here's the deal: if our community logs 1,000 hikes during the window, a generous local family will put $100,000 toward the $130,000 still needed to purchase the trailhead parcel at the base of the butte.

Hike any time during the window, then scan the QR code at the top of the switchbacks to log your climb.

Big news for a place many of us recreate.

Did you know the High School Butte trailhead property is up for sale?

The Jackson Hole Land Trust is leading the effort to purchase the 3.74-acre parcel at the base of High School Butte — preserving open space and access to the familiar switchbacks that ascend the butte.

For more than 30 years, the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole has kept it open, and now that the church needs to sell the parcel to build employee housing, the Jackson Hole Land Trust is stepping in to secure permanent, safe public access for the whole community.
