The Southwest Mississippi Mayors Association (SWMA) held a summer meeting in Brookhaven on Thursday, June 11. Those in attendance enjoyed updates from our federal offices (US Senators' and Congressmen's staff members were invited), an update on municipal workers’ comp and liability insurance, and discussions on economic development and crime.
Featured speakers were as follows:
Anna Thames (Senator Cindy Hyde Smith's Office), Michael Sipp (Senator Rogers Wicker's Office), Brady Stewart (Congressman Michael Guest's Office), Lenita Knight (MS Municipal Service Company), Chandler Russ (Natchez Inc.), and Mike Morrison (Mississippi Bail Agents Association).
Plans are now underway for a meeting on regional electric power shortages impacting economic development to be held later this summer, and a third annual fall meeting to be held later this year.
The SWMA, organized under the umbrella of the MS Municipal League, is comprised of mayors with one common goal: working together for the betterment of communities across Southwest Mississippi.
