Our Story
Organizational Profile Women for Progress is a catalyst for action. Progress emanates from awareness. Women for Progress informs the community on the issues of our time: issues in education, legislation, economic development and cultural awareness. We must study issues of political campaigns and platforms of candidates, then through advocacy, we must voice our views to our legislators and congressional delegation—we must speak up on matters of social injustice and inequalities—. We must accept our responsibility as citizens. Change in the community comes from action and service.
"A woman must accept the responsibility, first for her own life, secondly for lives of others around her, and thirdly for her own society so that her public responsibilities ought to be the final crown of her life, the climax of her education."
Women for Progress of Mississippi, Inc., is chartered as a non-profit, non-partisan community improvement organization. Since its founding by Dorothy Stewart Samuel in May 1978, Women for Progress has served as an illuminating force in community and political affairs. Women for Progress is dedicated in purpose and program to increased voter participation and voter awareness.
Women for Progress is noted for its leadership in Public Affairs & Education Forums, Women Empowerment, Minority Entrepreneur Showcases, Youth Leadership (Project Aspire), Radio & Communications (Women for Progress Radio Network), Economic Development and Cultural Awareness (Kwanzaa).
