Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center Foundation

Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center Foundation The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center Foundation is the non-profit support organization for the Bridger-

Our organization raises private funds to supplement the ongoing work of the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center, providing avalanche awareness data and education for northwest Wyoming. Each year, 65 percent of the avalanche center’s funding, which supports public information about avalanche condition reports found at btavalanche.org or at (307) 733-2664, comes from donations. We promote fundraising initiatives that enable the work of professionals in the avalanche center to push forward.

4/4/26 Teton conditions update. Spring is quickly melting away in the lower elevations while increased avalanche danger exists up high due to the recent snowfall.

3/22/2026 Minimal refreezing in the snowpack continues to create avalanche problems. Surface snow is turning mushy rapidly as sunshine and heat hit slopes. Cliff features are prime suspects due to the way they hold and radiate heat. Large human-triggered avalanches will remain possible until freezing temperatures return. Until then, an early start is key!

3/20/26 - Southern Tetons/Northern Snake River Range

East facing slope at 8,600'. There is liquid water in the snowpack that is increasing the likelihood of wet snow avalanches. This problem will persist until we get some colder temperatures.

3/7/26 We traveled out to investigate the January drought layer and found it is still unstable. The weak layer has been adjusting to the overlying slab as avalanches are becoming less likely. Caution is still advised in very steep terrain over 35° on the north half of the compass. Read the full forecast to learn more.

Conditions update: 3/4/2026
While it certainly feels like spring came early, buried weak layers of snow are still a concern in north facing terrain around 9,000’. Today, forecasters found preserved surface hoar buried 2.5 feet below the surface on the west side of the Tetons. Stability tests indicated that there is still potential to trigger an avalanche on this layer. Very steep, north facing slopes around this elevation band are the bullseye. 2/26/26 - Snake River Range

We are on the tail end of a big loading event that the snowpack is still adjusting too. While signs of instability may not be present, slopes with buried weak layers of snow still need time to heal.

Today, we observed many avalanches. Some failing naturally during the recent storm and some that were human triggered.

As we go forward the likelihood of triggering an avalanche failing on buried facets will decrease. But consequences will still remain high.

2/23/26 - Salt River Range

We have been seeing persistent slab avalanches failing on weak snow formed in January every day, since last week. With more snow and wind on the way, expect avalanche danger to rise.

Persistent slab avalanches can be unpredictable and triggered remotely. Avoid being on or under steep terrain where this problem exists.
