The work starts with young people.

Young people already have ideas about what their schools, families, and communities need. When we give them opportunities to learn, plan, practice leadership, and put their ideas into action, we help build their capacity to create meaningful change.

Our role as caring adults and community partners is to make room for that growth and support them along the way.

Learn. Think. Plan. Act.

In 2015, Justin Lofton was a young person participating in Teen Health programming. Today, he serves as our Senior Director of the Healthy Youth Division.

His journey is a reminder of what can happen when young people have opportunities to keep learning, connecting, and leading.

The impact of youth programming doesn't end when the program does. Young people carry those experiences into their lives and communities, building on them and pouring what they've learned back into others.

That's the kind of journey we're continuing to build through MY Council.

We don’t give young people power. They already have it.

As parents, families, educators, mentors, partners and caring adults, our role is to create environments where young people can recognize their strengths, build confidence, use their voices and put their ideas into action.

When we listen, make room and provide meaningful support, young people have greater opportunities to discover and develop the power that was already theirs.

When young people have access to accurate information and opportunities to use their voices, they can help change the conversation around HIV.

We’re grateful for the Positive Action AMP Grant and its investment in young people using storytelling to challenge stigma, share resources, and build healthier communities.

Hear more from our Deputy Director, Josh McCawley, about the impact of this work.

Every young person deserves to know that their voice matters.

Parents, caregivers, educators, mentors and other trusted adults play an important role in helping young people build the confidence to speak up, make healthy choices and recognize their own potential.

When we listen to young people, support their growth and make room for their voices, we help create healthier futures for all of us.

Your Voice. Your Future. Your Power.

As young people head back to school, there’s a lot more to think about than grades, schedules and school supplies.

This school year, remind the young people in your life that taking care of themselves matters, too. Healthy boundaries, rest, asking for support and focusing on their own journey can all contribute to their overall well-being.

Share these five reminders with a young person you care about.

This is why MYSummit exists.

Every workshop, every conversation, every leadership activity, and every connection made throughout the weekend is designed to help young people discover something important: they already have the ability to create change.

Tyler Yarbrough's journey is a powerful example of that mission in action. From his time with Teen Health Mississippi to helping improve food access in Clarksdale and organizing a community screening of Sinners, his story reminds us that leadership begins with serving your own community.

We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, counselors, facilitators, staff, partners, the Mississippi School of the Arts, and our sponsors for making it possible to bring youth from across six states to Brookhaven for MY Summit 2026.
