Congratulations to Sam Hathcock (‘25) on his outstanding achievements in collegiate entrepreneurship and innovation.

A former member of the USJ Bass Fishing Team, Sam has combined his passion for the sport with advanced technology through his concept, ANGLR (CastOff). The platform is designed to allow anglers to participate in virtual tournaments from fishing locations anywhere, expanding access to competition through the use of emerging technology.

The project was first recognized at the University of North Alabama Big Ideas Competition, where his team earned 1st Place and a $5,000 award for developing a mobile-first fishing tournament platform that integrates computer vision and geospatial technology.

Building on that success, Sam and his partner, Hayden Blakely, advanced the project to the Launch Regional Partnership Singing River Trail competition, where they again earned 1st Place, along with a $10,000 investment prize to further support the venture’s development.

Sam’s work reflects a thoughtful application of academic knowledge, innovation, and entrepreneurial initiative. We look forward to following his continued success! ❤️🩵
