Coombs Outdoors

Coombs Outdoors Coombs Outdoors envisions a community in which youth feel supported, connected, and inspired.

We empower local youth to grow and thrive by reducing barriers to outdoor recreation through programs, mentorship, and community building. People come from around the world to experience Jackson Hole’s iconic public lands and recreation opportunities, but not all locals have that same access. Many hard-working families experience barriers to outdoor recreation culture. Coombs Outdoors believes all

youth growing up in Jackson should have the chance to build confidence and community through outdoor adventures. Coombs reduces barriers to outdoor recreation by providing affordable, accessible, year-round outdoor programming from Kindergarten through high school. In the winter, participants ski, snowboard, and Nordic ski with lessons and programs for all ability levels. In the summer, Coombs camps and clinics give kids the opportunity to hike, climb, bike, raft, camp, and more on Jackson's surrounding public lands. 🎿 Before winter gets even father away, we need to give a huge shoutout to our for supporting Coombs ski and snowboard programs year after year! Our high-demand Coombs Club program at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort would not be possible without their gear rental sponsorship and amazing service.
🎿This winter the team at Black Tie set up 118 middle and high schoolers with the equipment they needed to shred all season long while building confidence, increasing representation on the slopes, and having fun with mentors and friends. Thank you, Black Tie!

As summer figures out whether it’s really starting or not, we still can’t get over all the fun 15 Coombs participants had in Moab for the Engage Spring Break! We challenged ourselves canyoneering, mountain biking, bouldering, cooking, hiking, camping and so much more. From the quest for the perfect marshmallow to going over the edge on their first rappel, our group put the dessert in desert and had fun in the sun (and rain and hail and snow). 🏜️🚲🧗‍♀️🍦

Still thinking about Spring Break Ski Camp last month….

15 fifth and sixth graders spent a week skiing and snowboarding at JHMR everyday. And everyday they came ready to SHRED. For the first half of the week we soaked up the spring vibes, skiing through puddles and dodging rocks. After a couple days of warm temps and blue skies, we asked the kids if they were about ready to shred some pow. They said yes, and we agreed. That Friday we woke up to 16 inches of fresh snow. Prayers answered. With the stoke through the roof, we clicked into our powder planks, buttoned up our powder skirts, and hit record on the GoPro.

Shoutout to everyone who skied with us, cheered us on and made this program possible. Everyday we were joined by a group of dedicated volunteers who helped make ski camp a positive experience for everyone. Most of all thank you to every participant for making our very first Teton Village Ski Camp the funnest week of all time.

Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

🌎 Connecting youth to the mountains and waters of our amazing planet all year round, we feel like we celebrate Earth Day every day. The outdoors is more than a playground - it's a home and a community. And it's right there in our name. Happy Earth Day from Coombs Outdoors!

For the fourth season in a row the Coombs Backcountry Club rose to a challenge of new heights. We went searching for powder in the backcountry of Teton Pass and Grand Teton National Park (kinda found it), climbed to the summit of Snow King (yes, all of us!), dove into avalanche education with certificates in both level 1 AND 2 courses, practiced first aid and laughed the whole time (even on the uphill… sometimes).

We are incredibly proud of the grit and dedication these participants showed to learning a new sport, supporting each other and fostering a healthy respect for the winter backcountry. We had so much fun and learned a lot. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our incredible community partners and all of our weekly volunteer coaches!

Shoutout to seniors Diego and Mikey who are graduating after 4 years with the program, a Rec Level 2 under their belt and the motivation to continue lifelong pursuits in the backcountry! We are so proud of you and we wish you the best of luck as you head off to college next year!

Empower Spring Break Trip 🌟

Empower sophomore and junior participants got to head down to Boise for the first week of Spring Break and tour the campus at Boise State University!

Huge shoutout to Alex for guiding us through and giving our participants a real look at college life. We topped it all off with some bowling on campus 🎳🪩

Skiing is more than skiing. It’s a way to dream big, learn what you’re capable of, have fun, and share what you love with others. Doug Coombs taught us that. It’s been 20 years since he passed away, and his legacy lives on in every Coombs kid finding joy, community, and themselves through adventure. Started in 2012 by Doug’s wife Emily, Coombs Outdoors is proud to create accessible outdoor opportunities and pass on his lessons in skiing and in life.
