Last night we enjoyed seeing the Brother Mack Davis receiving his 50 year award and apron.
Bro. Davis was raised to Master Mason in St. John's Lodge No. 45 April 6, 1974. He served 47 1/2 years as chairman of the Daughtry Foundation which is named for Hampton H. Daughtry. Bro. Daughtry was
also a Freemason as was his father & both were members of St. John's No. 45.
Bro. Davis & Bro. Daughtry were friends & Bro. Davis much influenced Bro. Daughtry's decision to donate the property on which this Lodge is built. Bro. Davis also knew the president of at that time Avondale Mills and arranged a meeting with Bro. Daughtry which resulted in the donation of the property which today we enjoy as Jackson/Butts Co. Recreational Park.
Bro. Daughtry wisely appointed Bro. Davis as chairman for the Recreational Park for 10 years. He also assisted in procuring extra property for Dauset Trails Nature Center which is a part of the Foundation.
Bro. Davis also served as President of Butts Co. Chamber of Commerce & 20 years as board member of the Salvation Army service center.
He served Boy Scouts of America Flint River Council for 2 years.
For his dedicated service & love for his community, Bro. Davis is now a member of the Butts Co. Hall of Fame.
His favorite impression of Freemasonry is "We all meet on the same level".
