Jackson Fire District #2 is seeking referendum to build a new firehouse.

With the growth of our fire district and our ongoing consolidation efforts with Jackson Township Fire District #3, we have realized the need for a centralized Fire Headquarters for the Fire District.

Please come to 785 Miller Ave. on September 11th between 2pm and 10pm to cast your vote.

Here are the facts about this new firehouse.

To start, Jackson Township recently deeded the property at 209 West Veterans Hwy to the Fire District. This 12+ acre property is located closest to the geographic center of town, which allows for a quicker response to all areas of Jackson Township.

This location helps to centralize the Fire District’s services with other Township services by placing it near the Municipal and Justice Complexes. It will house both our career and volunteer firefighters, along with Administration and Fire Bureau offices.

Our current firehouses were built 40+ years ago, long before 24-hour staffing was a thought. As our town continues to grow, this firehouse will allow us to house two fully staffed pieces of fire apparatus, two staffed EMS Units with a supervisor, and an on-duty Chief 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. There is also enough room for specialty apparatus that can be staffed quickly when needed.

With preparation and construction, we estimate the cost to not exceed $18,500,000.

The conditions we are exposed to as firefighters increase our chances of cancer. This new building will allow us to create a decontamination area to reduce carcinogens exposure both to ourselves, and the building.

The firehouse will also serve as an Eligible Organization (EO) with the NJ Department of Community Affairs/Division of Fire Safety so we may conduct sanctioned training and classes for all of Jackson Township’s Emergency Services.

After Phase 1 is complete and the firehouse is open, we have two future phases planned for the property. Phase 2 being a training facility where we can hold specialty and in-service training for all of Jackson Township's Emergency Services. Phase 3 is a repair facility to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on the Jackson Township’s emergency apparatus.
