🎶Today, six incredible campers took the stage to showcase everything they worked on throughout the week at this year RockSTARS Summer Camp. The group performances were outstanding, but the solo performances were truly the highlight of the day.

Music therapy is about so much more than making music. It helps individuals build communication skills, strengthen social connections, increase confidence, improve motor skills, and find meaningful ways to express themselves. Watching our campers grow throughout the week and shine on stage today was a great reminder of the impact music can have.

A special thank you to our campers, families, and Music Therapist Will Whetzel for making this year's RockSTARS Music Therapy Summer Camp such a success!

For STAR Center Board Member Angela Crocker, our mission is deeply personal.

In her latest blog, Angela shares the story of her son, Yates, his autism diagnosis, and the journey their family has taken together. She reflects on the challenges they faced, the support they found, and the impact The STAR Center's art therapy program had on helping Yates discover confidence, self-expression, and new opportunities.

Today, Angela serves as Chair of our Development Committee, helping ensure other families have access to the same life-changing services that made a difference in her son's life.

This heartfelt story is a powerful reminder that when a community comes together to support individuals with disabilities, lives are changed for generations.

Today, members of our Beyond Vision Peer Group enjoyed a visit to the The Carnegie Center for Arts and History in downtown Jackson. Karla, Cham Sherry, Caleb, and Joe, one of our volunteers, joined Christie, our Vision Services Specialist, and Michele, our Development and Brand Specialist, for an afternoon of exploring and learning.

The group experienced a variety of unique art installations, including pieces created from recycled beer bottles, k***s, wire, and lights housed within acrylic boxes. These interactive exhibits encouraged participants to engage through tactile touch and sound.

The visit also included a tour of the Carl Perkins room and other exhibits throughout the Carnegie. Experiences like these help foster community, and provide opportunities for individuals with low vision or vision loss to connect with art, history, and one another.

We are grateful for spaces like the Carnegie that make exploration and discovery accessible and welcoming for all.
