Jackson Hole Public Art Community as canvas; creativity as catalyst.

Jackson Hole Public Art places temporary and permanent artworks and we produce community-minded, artist-driven projects for public spaces. Public art invigorates and transforms, welcoming locals and visitors to a collective experience that builds community. Our projects are free, family-friendly and accessible to everyone and begin with inclusive conversations with our residents. We also animate civic spaces through partnerships with private and public developers, ensuring that art is included in public design.

Silent Auction Now Open! The To Jackson Hole, With Love Silent Auction will be open online from October 5th at 9AM to October 15th at 12:00PM. Stop by our celebration on October 15th at the Center for the Arts from 5:00PM to 7:00PM to bid in person.

Jackson Hole knows what it means to build a life around beauty, and so does Bentonville, Arkansas. This package is your invitation to see how another art-loving town does it.

Bentonville has quietly become one of the great cultural destinations in America, and it starts with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Founded by Alice Walton and designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the museum is tucked into a forested Ozark ravine, its glass-and-wood pavilions built right into the landscape. Inside: a world-class collection spanning colonial portraiture to contemporary icons, all free to the public. This summer, we had 5 artist made mailboxes placed around town to collect postcards from community members about what you love about Jackson Hole. The postcards we received from these mailboxes and Bronwyn’s teaching sessions will be on display, so stop by to find your postcard!

This event will feature spoken word from JH Writers, DJ/VJ Dan Sanford, and a special performance from Contemporary Dance Wyoming at 6:15PM. We’ve got some great raffle items, thanks to our amazing sponsors. And, opening online on October 5th, a silent auction featuring handmade postcards from local artists and a 2 night stay at The Compton Hotel in Bentonville, AR and a private guided tour of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art with a museum staff member.

Jackson Hole Public Art and Teton County are pleased to announce that Seattle-based artist John Grade has been selected to create a permanent public artwork for the new Teton County Justice Center.

Grade was selected following a competitive national Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process that received more than 120 applications from artists across the country. Three finalists—Ben Butler Studio, John Grade Studio, and Franziska Agrawal Studio—were invited to develop site-specific proposals informed by the architecture, mission, and public function of the Justice Center.

Grade’s selected proposal draws inspiration from two local trees and the interconnected forest ecosystems in which they grow. The suspended sculpture will extend through the interior of the Justice Center, above the stairs and upper landing, and continue into the covered exterior space above the building’s entry.

The work examines the interior life of two individual trees through their growth rings, inviting viewers to consider the passage of time, periods of adversity and abundance, and the ways individual trees exist within a larger network. The forms evoke the surrounding mountains and landscape of Teton County while also exploring the unseen systems that connect trees to one another through intertwined roots and symbiotic fungal networks.

The project is funded by Teton County with public art administration provided by Jackson Hole Public Art. The artwork will join the architecture and landscape of the Justice Center as a permanent component of the public space.

The Arts for All grants program distributes social service tax dollars from Teton County, Wyoming and the Town of Jackson, Wyoming for Arts education, producing and presenting opportunities, and public projects by individual Artists that have a strong community benefit.

Today we’re highlighting Coombs Outdoors, one of our past grant recipients.

All of these programs and projects effectively made art more accessible to the community we serve, provided more ways for our participants to learn and grow, and connected our families to partner organizations and other art opportunities in Jackson. Mama Mimi, a giant larger than life troll made from wood pallets is a surprise discovery in R Park. JHPA commissioned Thomas Dambo and maintains our giant troll.

The Ephemeral Garden of Lanterns curated by Bronwyn Minton, was made by over 30 local artists, with contributions from 800 students. The culminating event included dance, spoken word, choral music and lighting. A collaboration involving over 5 organizations.
