History of IBEW Local Union 480
Local 480 was first chartered in Charleston, WV on February 1, 1906, where it subsequently lasted 2 years and became non-operational in May, 1908. From Charleston, WV, Local 480 was chartered in Portland, OR on June 11, 1912, and was there until they were merged with Local 317 to form Local 48 on May 21, 1913. The charter was reissued to Marshall, TX on May 3, 1921

where it became non-operational in September, 1922. On March 29, 1927, Local Union 480, Jackson, MS was officially established with the signing of the Charter by then IBEW President James P. The original Local 480 Officers on the Charter are as follows:

The first home for Local 480, Jackson, Mississippi was in a motor rewinding shop on State Street. The second home was an office space on the second floor above the Walgreen’s Drug Store located then at Capitol Street and Lamar Street, across the street from South Central Bell. The third home was in the Carpenter’s Labor Temple on State Street. The fourth home was in an old house on Rankin Street. The fifth home for Local Union 480 was 230 W. Rankin Street, the first owned building. The sixth home and our present location is 4767 I-55 South, Jackson, Mississippi. The Charter is proudly displayed in our Meeting Hall. Local Union 480 has been a growing and thriving force in the Central Mississippi Labor movement for over 85 years. With the history of our organization and our Local Union 480, we have a responsibility to those that left it to us and those that follow behind us of passing it on better and stronger than we found it.

Business Manager Message:

We're fortunate to have opportunities both here at home and across the country. The large data center projects are providing excellent wages and valuable experience, and there's nothing wrong with traveling when that's where the work is.
But we also have to remember what keeps Local 480 strong. The projects in our jurisdiction are what sustain our local union, our contractors, and our future. These signatory contractors support our agreements year after year, even when work isn't booming. They deserve our support when work is available.
If we continually leave local work for higher-paying jobs elsewhere, we risk weakening the very market that provides us with long-term stability. Contractors who can't staff their jobs lose opportunities, and over time that can mean fewer projects, fewer market gains, and less leverage at the bargaining table.
The data center work won't last forever. When those projects are complete, we all want to come home to a Local that is stronger than when we left—not one that has lost market share because we didn't support the work in our own backyard.
Our Brotherhood has always been built on helping each other. Sometimes that means traveling to answer another local's call. Other times, it means staying home to ensure our own local remains strong for the next generation.
Let's continue to support our local contractors, organize more electrical workers, grow our market share, and build a Local 480 that provides good-paying work for years to come.

It is with deep sympathy that we inform you of the passing of Bro. Randy D. Blair on June 7, 2026.
There will be a visitation held on Friday, July 10, , 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a Memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS.

Current Job Calls!!!!!!

Fountain has a call for 2 JW for a job at Jackson State. Job is currently working 5-8's but going to 4-10's and an 8.

Apex Electric has a call for 1 JW Working 40 hrs. Or more a week

Doleac has a call for 4 JW for Amick farms in Laurel. Job is Monday - Thursday 10 hours or more a day and Saturday and Sunday. Duration around 6 months.

It is with deep sympathy that we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Carolyn Osborne on May 26, 2026. Mrs. Osborne is the wife of Bro. Ed Osborne.
There will be a visitation held on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Funeral Service in Jackson, MS. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Morning Star M.B. Church in Jackson, MS.

Carolyn Dianne Hamilton Osborne, 61, of Jackson, MS, died May 26, 2026, in Jackson, MS. She was born May 25, 1965.

IBEW Local 480 Crawfish Boil 2026

We had a great turnout this year and an even better time! The food was outstanding, thanks to the hard work of Bill Dulaney, and the kids had a blast with the slide and bounce house provided by Richie Stegall.

It was a day full of food, friends, family, and fellowship—exactly what Local 480 is all about.

A big thank you to all of our staff members and their families who stepped up to serve and help wherever needed. Your efforts made the day run smoothly and successfully.

We also want to recognize and thank William Duncan, Mark Stewart, Benjamin Davenport, Jackson Hale, Monif Nasher, and Gregory Atkins. Your help did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event such a success.
