The Citizenship in Society Merit Badge will be discontinued effective Friday, February 27, 2026. Beginning on February 27, 2026, Scouts will no longer be able to start requirements on the Citizenship in Society Merit Badge. Those Scouts who had already started and completed any requirements for the merit badge will be allowed the rest of 2026 to complete the full merit badge and still utilize it for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. This has been standard practice for Eagle requirements and other advancement changes in the past.

Effective Feb. 27, 2026, the rank of Eagle Scout will have 13 required merit badges instead of 14. All of the remaining 13 Eagle Required merit badges will still apply, just not Citizenship in Society, but Scouts will have 8 elective merit badges from which to choose instead of 7, and the total for Eagle Scout will remain at 21 merit badges (13 required + 8 elective = 21 merit badges).

Council & District Advancement Chairs as well as Council Registrars (Eagle Scout app processors) will have the ability to allow the Citizenship in Society Merit Badge to count towards Eagle Scout for those few Life Scouts who started the requirements prior to the discontinuance date, and will complete the merit badge before Dec. 31, 2026.

Happy Birthday to the movement that started it all! ๐ŸŽ‚โšœ๏ธ

Today, we are celebrating 116 years of Scouting America. Since 1910, Scouting has been teaching young people how to lead, explore, and "Be Prepared" for anything life throws their way.

Our troop is proud to be part of this incredible legacy. From campfire stories and summer camps to community service and life-long friendships, weโ€™re honored to keep the adventure going right here in Jackson.

To all our current Scouts, alumni, volunteers, and familiesโ€”thank you for making our troop what it is today!

Set up a camping tent inside your warmest room - human bodies produce 330 BTU/hour each. 2-3 people in an enclosed tent can raise temperature 15-20ยฐF warmer than the room. Add blankets OVER the tent for extra insulation.
This saved families during the 2021 Texas freeze. Your body becomes the heater. No power needed.

Martin Luther King Jr., the American civil rights hero whose life we celebrate every year on the third Monday in January, was a Boy Scout: https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2015/01/15/martin-luther-king-jr-was-a-boy-scout/

Scouting America with a mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Weโ€™re proud that Martin Luther King Jr. is one of many notable leaders who spent time in their youth as members of BSA, learning about leadership and service to others.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a chance for Scouts to step up as leaders and make a positive impact in their communities. Letโ€™s not just celebrate Dr. Kingโ€™s lifeโ€”letโ€™s live his values through action.
