Rescue Miracles happen often & I wish I had enough time to share them all— because just the fact that the abbey has been able to survive from the love and donations of our followers for over 15 years is a miracle in itself!
Thank you all so very much for investing in the lives of animals in need in MS!
I’ve said many times that I will keep going as long as the funds are there— and lately it’s been a little scary. I had actually let the staff know we didn’t have enough to even make it through this month (and still be able to pay off all our vet bills if we have to close). I wanted them prepared in case we had to make seriously hard decisions.
We have 87 dogs & 9 cats/kittens right now. Every time we turn around there are 12 more in need of urgent help, then 9, then 7, then 5, etc. 😞
The reason I am about a dozen posts behind in updating everything happening is because taking care of that many animals takes all day, every day with the tiny (but mighty) staff we have. We are just not equipped for this many & we haven’t stopped in weeks. Every single animal we have has needs, and some way more than others. All those needs come first & it takes away from anything else we could be doing: posting updates, doing adoption events, responding to messages, fundraising, networking to find them homes, etc.
So that brings me to the fact that I haven’t had a chance to fundraise enough to cover building & staff & vet bills for awhile— and we had used our last funds (that each of y’all individually has donated to support our efforts- THANK YOU!) on things we absolutely had to do: vaccines for all new rescues & 2 sets each for puppies, 42 spays & neuters so they could go north, food for the dogs/cats every week, keeping the air on in the building through these scorching days, and keeping staff paid so the animals can be taken care of. We had used all we had in the bank.
So I told God I was ready to close. 100%
The stress of trying to keep doing 5 jobs in one & not having enough funds to continue, the nonstop work & never having nights, weekends, holidays, & sick days off to just breathe & enjoy life for a second has worn on me to the point where I had to admit it was time to just take a break- and I felt a peace about it for the first time ever.
So that brings me to the miracle— because we still didn’t have enough to make it through the month of September with all the bills we owed.
And miraculously, through the grace of God, I had three different friends/businesses that I have known for 20+ years contact me out of the blue that they wanted to make donations last week!
Y’all, I had lost hope , & then in what seemed like three random, miraculous moments in one, we had enough to make it through the month!
That may not seem like a miracle to some, but if you know how hard it is to raise funds day in & day out for over 15 years to keep precious animals from suffering intense torture, neglect & abuse here, you would understand. We’ve never had 3 businesses offer in one week & give us exactly enough to make it through the month, and I am forever grateful.
Please support the businesses who support your community & nonprofits!!! They are the best businesses with the best people. These are people who you know want to do good & be good to others.

***side note, we are working on trying to figure out how to make it through the end of the year now & then a plan for next year. This post is long enough so that will be another post on another day.
