We Engage would like to thank everyone who followed, donated and supported We Engage and the Pink House Defenders. We are eternally grateful to you; your support made We Engage possible.

However, We Engage is officially going on “permanent hiatus” and closing the organization as a 501c3.

We Engage is honored to have been able to support the patients and providers at Jackson Women’s Health Organization, aka the Pink House, in Jackson, Mississippi.

We Engage is also honored to have played a role in fighting for our right to abortion, to autonomy, to be free of religious intrusion into our private health decisions.

Thank you to all the Defenders, to our allies, and to everyone that supported us, we are eternally grateful.

From We Engage co-founder Derenda Hancock:

“After nearly 5 years it seems that We Engage has run its course. While there have been some disappointments along the way, there were victories as well.

When we founded We Engage, there were only two clinic es**rt teams (to our knowledge) that regularly engaged with anti-choice protesters: The Pink House Defenders and the Huntsville, AL es**rts.

One of our main goals was to show the public (and fellow es**rt teams) what responsible engagement looked like and to encourage other es**rt teams to do the same while always keeping patients first. If you’ve checked out Tik Tok in the last couple of years you can see that engagement is the new norm.

No, engaging didn’t save abortion access. It did let antis know we weren’t “going down without a fight.” And it gave the public a chance to see how to “push back” responsibly. For us…that was a big win!

We Engage organized and protested Operation Save America (OSA) at 3 of their national conferences over the years. In 2020, We Engage confronted Free The States in Oklahoma at one of the largest gatherings (1,000+) of “abortion abolitionists” to date. We publicized these events to show the public not only how the antis behave, but that when you show up, you CAN make a difference.

But with Dobbs, circumstances have changed. With Kim being in another state and funding being so sparse, we’ve sadly made the decision to close down We Engage. Fundraising was never something we were good at.

While We Engage is grateful for the states that still have access, Mississippi is a “done deal” and there is little to nothing we can do here, even if we did have the resources.

We plan to keep the Pink House Defender’s social media and YouTube pages “alive”. The Pink House and the Defenders should NOT be forgotten. The We Engage website will remain online as long as it can be supported.

We want to thank all of you who supported We Engage. It meant so much to the Pink House Defenders to know that y’all cared. And a HUGE thank you to all the Defenders!

We Engage never had grants or sponsors so everything we were able to do was thanks to YOU, our supporters!

So, thank you for the support and thank you for the memories.

Fund abortion, and keep fighting, y’all! ❤️”

Have you heard? Did you know?

This week, the Supreme Court will hear from a state arguing that some of its citizens are less important than others and those people should receive a lesser standard of medical care, even if it means they suffer and possibly die.

Welcome to Idaho v United States. Some background...

So, way back in 1986 Congress passed the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, or EMTALA, for short.

EMTALA was passed because private hospitals were dumping patients who couldn’t afford to pay on public hospitals, including people in labor, and that’s why “Labor” is named specifically in the act.

EMTALA was passed to ensure hospitals receiving certain federal funds would have to care for presenting emergency room patients and at least stabilize them, regardless of ability to pay.

This upcoming Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear the state of Idaho's arguments that the state's medical providers shouldn’t be held to the EMTALA standard of care.

According to the Kaiser Foundation, "While all states have life exceptions, five states with abortion bans (Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and South Dakota) do not make exceptions for the health of the pregnant person. In these states, a hospital cannot legally provide abortion as a stabilizing treatment for a pregnant patient presenting with conditions that risk severe and lasting harms, including sepsis, kidney failure and loss of fertility, unless these conditions become life-threatening. And even in states that have exceptions for the health of the pregnant person, because these exceptions are often narrow and vague, pregnant people can still be denied emergency abortion care needed to preserve their health."

Idaho is arguing they should be able to withhold care from pregnant people, because their abortion ban stands unless the pregnant person is DYING.

And predictably, this denial of care by medical providers has caused the deaths of pregnant women in Idaho, and the state of Idaho knows it.

When more pregnant people started dying because of their ban, Idaho decided they would just stop counting the dead. When maternal mortality increased, Idaho ended its Maternal Mortality Review, tracking maternal mortality.

For real. They just stopped counting the dead.

And this upcoming Thursday at the Supreme Court, Idaho will argue they should be allowed to continue these practices.

Again, a STATE GOVERNMENT is asking to be allowed to withhold care that would save lives. Care that would stop preventable death.

Pregnant people are dying. Real live people with loved ones, with lives – are dying because of willful state action. And the Supreme Court seems just fine with that continuing.

And we are still trying to litigate our rights in the courts? "Equal Justice Under Law", not so much.

What the hell, y'all? What are we doing here?

This sure as hell ain't equality, that's for damn sure.

Article below with info.

EDIT: Arguments were heard today, and decision should come at the end of June. Just like Dobbs.

Anti status update! Yesterday in Tennessee, Dr. Coleman Boyd, a long-time clinic harasser at the Pink House, and five other antis were convicted of federal civil rights conspiracy charges. Boyd is now a convicted felon.

Appeals are likely to follow but today, Boyd is a convicted felon with sentencing on July 2. Link to DOJ press release in comments, bio. Pic from Nashville, TN when We Engage counter-protested the OSA National event in 2022.

Guess this is just the way it is now...this is subjugation y'all.

Subjugation. For real. We are not equal under the law, and our lives are subordinate to the "unborn."

We suffer and die under these laws, while those that pass them smile and claim to "love them both". And we let them get away with it.

We are subject to being policed and PUNISHED for pregnancy outcomes. This is where we are.

The courts WILL NOT FIX THIS. They have failed us at every turn. Just look at the history that got us to this place.

If we keep doing the same thing - working through the courts - we are just waiting to be subjugated further.

We are LITERALLY begging for our lives in front of lawmakers and courts that have shown over and over again they don't give a damn about anything except their patriarchal religious agenda of protecting the "unborn."

And to hell with the born. You know...us. To hell with us and supporting OUR right to life.

We are not ok, y'all.

Red states would rather let a patient die than let her terminate a dangerous pregnancy. And they’re barely pretending otherwise.
