Emergency shelter in Jackson, Michigan. Community meals served at 7:30am, 12pm and 5pm. The men's dorm has 32 beds and the women & family dorm has 44 beds.

The Jackson Interfaith Shelter is a low-barrier emergency shelter for men, women and children.

Progress continues on our new Family Shelter! 🏠

The structure is really starting to take shape as framing continues to move forward. Just across the way, the outbuilding is even farther along, with brick now being laid on the exterior. We also have some good news for our volunteers and visitors: our parking lot improvements are complete! The newly renovated lot is now open again.

Thank you to everyone who is helping make this project possible. We can't wait to welcome families into this new space and expand our ability to serve those in our community.

Several members of our team spent the week in Grand Rapids attending the Citygate Network Annual Conference alongside rescue missions and shelters from across the country.

Conferences like this give us the opportunity to learn from others doing similar work, explore new ideas and best practices, and bring back fresh perspectives that help us better serve those who turn to our shelter for support.

We're grateful for the chance to invest in our team, connect with peers, and continue growing so we can strengthen the work happening right here at home! ❤️

When someone comes to stay at Jackson Interfaith Shelter, securing a job—if they don’t already have one—is one of the first things we help them work toward. We’re grateful for Michigan Works Southeast, an organization working to connect job seekers with employment opportunities in their area. Establishing consistent income and saving that income toward a down payment on an apartment is crucial.

Michigan Works! Southeast recently shared that there are 836 active job openings in Jackson County right now. Their Career Advisors are available to meet with job seekers and guide them in their journey to employment. For individuals enrolled in their MSWE program, they help them overcome any barriers which keep them from gainful employment, such as further training, obtaining a high school diploma, resume and computer workshops, interview clothing allowance, daycare assistance and even help with rent, utilities or transportation when available.

We LOVE our Golden Girls! This amazing crew has been serving at the shelter for over 30 years. Though the faces have changed over the years, their group faithfully shows up twice a month to prepare and serve lunch for those who turn to the shelter for a meal. This is what community looks like, and we are so blessed by them. ❤

Fresh blueberry muffins were on the menu for this week's cooking class, hosted by one of our Food Service Coordinators, Mikey! 🫐

Clients learned to make muffins from scratch while practicing measuring techniques, combining dry and wet ingredients, and following a recipe. They also had the opportunity to compare traditional and gluten-free flour and learn how they affect texture and taste. It was a delicious way to build skills and confidence in the kitchen.

We have some new original art to display around here! We love having Jackson School of the Arts at the shelter. Lizzie did a wonderful job sharing the beauty of watercolors at our most recent class. Look how beautiful some of the final pieces turned out 🎨

📣 Summer is here so it’s time to share this important reminder. If you have leftover catered food from open houses, wedding receptions or other events, we are always very grateful to receive those leftovers. We are currently serving nearly 7,500 meals per month and your food donations are a big help to our kitchen team!

Please note:
⏰ It is best to drop it off immediately after your event, or within three days if it has been stored in the proper temperature in the meantime.
📞 It is not necessary to call before hand, but feel free to reach out and let us know you’re on your way.
🥦 We always welcome extras from your garden!
🧊 Frozen food is acceptable, too.
