St. Sava Mission Foundation Inc. St. Sava Mission Corporation, bringing friends old and new together for over 60+ years, celebrating Serbian traditions, culture, faith and most of all, FUN!

We are a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Public Charity registered with the IRS with EIN: 68-0057304 In 1962, people of Serbian heritage in the Western USA set out to build a shining center of our culture, community and faith in Jackson, California, the site of the first Serbian Orthodox Christian church in North America. Our goal: to build facilities for a children’s camp, a senior citizen’s home, education and other Serbian cultural and community needs. Their vehicle: the independent incorporation of our group. Today, after over 60 years, the St. Sava Mission Foundation continues to faithfully preserve its Stewardship of this great and vital legacy. With the children’s camp long-built and successful, today our goals remain a Senior Citizen Assisted-Living Home for our people; a Serbian Heritage Museum, Library & Serbian Cultural Center; historical building preservation; student scholarships; sports facilities; and a Serb youth exchange program. These are community and cultural goals that our organization was originally created to achieve in 1962. And, they are needed now more than ever here in the USA. If you support these ideals and goals, please consider becoming a Member or contributing to the Foundation! At its incorporation in 1962, the Corporation became the owner and steward of the St. Sava Mission property in Jackson, Amador County, California (in the Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills, 50 miles east of Sacramento). From its origins, the Corporation has been a membership organization. Members elect a Board of Directors, and the Board selects its corporate Officers. Through the past two generations of change in the world, change in the administration of our Church in north America, and change in the United States and the Old Country, the St. Sava Mission Foundation and its Members have steadfastly and reliably pursued the Purpose, Goals and Objectives of our founders: Serbs in America who wanted simply to preserve Serbian culture and heritage by caring for our elders, our children, and our community in the Western USA. The St. Sava Mission Foundation and its Members and supporters have been selfless, devoted, generous and faithful stewards of the Mission properties for over 60 years. They have raised millions of dollars and donated tens of thousands of work hours to pay off all of the original mortgages, and build and maintain the Mission Camp buildings and Property for over six decades. The continuing use of the property for one of its original Objectives–the Children’s Camp–is a simple and strong testament to what Serbs in America can achieve. Yet, there are important goals that need to be completed, and community needs that remain un-fulfilled that the St. Sava Mission Foundation remains devoted to. Even though Jackson, the USA, and the world have changed much since the 1960’s, and our community continues to evolve, we can see that the original Purpose and Vision of the Corporation are even more important than ever: to support and preserve Serbian culture and communities in the Western USA. We are a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Public Charity registered with the Internal Revenue Service with an EIN: 68-0057304

If you support these Serbian ideals and goals, please consider becoming a Member or contributing to the Foundation!

As we prepare for America 250 in celebrating the 4th of July at St Sava Mission in the City of Jackson- California we remember the greatest American Hero; Serbian General Dragoljub Draza Mihajlovic whom he and his Chetniks were responsible for saving the lives of over 500 American US Military Pilots whose planes were shot down by the Axis powers in WW2.
The First and True Fighter against Fascism, Na**sm, and bloody Communism. Enjoy this 20TH CENTURY FOX Production of their film about Дража Михаиловић called "Chetniks, the Fighting Guerrillas!"

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035729/

The movie was advertised in an original print ad as follows:
"Announcing -- The most stirring picture released this year! Thrill follows thrill in this living drama...that flames out of today's electrifying headlines! This very moment...a N**i troop train is being destroyed...!

Live, love, fight with Draža Mihailovich and his fighting guerrillas."

St Sava Mission - commemorates all Serbs on this June 28th Vidovdan Memorial or St. Vitus Day – a day that is not only a historical date, but the foundation of our identity, faith, honor and vows. It is a day when we remember all the heroes who laid down their lives for the freedom, faith and survival of the Serbian people. Vidovdan or St. Vitus teaches us that a nation that preserves its roots, its history and its sanctities has a future. That is why today, more than ever, we call for harmony, unity and mutual respect for all Serbs, regardless of where they live. There have been many difficult moments in our history, but betrayal has always been the hardest. There is no greater sin against one's people than renouncing one's own roots and betraying those who, with their sacrifice, made it possible for us to proudly bear the Serbian name today. May we spend this holy day in prayer, pride and remembrance of all the martyrs, heroes and ancestors who gave their lives so that we could be what we are today – Serbs. Happy and blessed St. Vitus Day!

The words written below Jesus is essentially spiritual casting a warning (in Serbian, Kletva) curse and covenant that loosely translates to:

"Whoever is a Serb and of Serb birth,
And of Serb blood and ancestry,
Yet comes not to fight at Kosovo,
May he never have any offspring,
Neither male nor female!
May nothing grow from his hand's labor,
Neither dark w**e nor white wheat!
May he wither in rust until his lineage dies out!"

A Look Back: Fourth of July Weekend, 1990

During the 1990 Fourth of July Weekend celebration at St. Sava Mission, guests enjoyed a performance by a Serbian folklore group, with live music playing from the stage inside the hall as families gathered to dance and celebrate together.

At that time, the original St. Sava Mission Chapel was still serving as the spiritual heart of the Mission. The chapel had faithfully served campers, families, and visitors for approximately 35 years, hosting worship services, prayers, and special religious occasions.
