The Youth Media Project, based in Jackson, Mississippi, brings young people together to learn how to tell their own stories. Funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, YMP's mission is to teach young people to understand how media is produced, how to tell their own stories, and how to make equity a component in building their community's media narrative.

UMMC Assistant Professor Dr. Justin Turner told the Youth Media Project that many Black Americans still struggle to trust the health-care system. He pointed to historical abuses, like the Tuskegee experiments, as a major reason.

“Although that was over 70 to 80 years ago, the remnants of that still linger in the minds of Black Americans.”
