I saw a post today saying pain tolerance is higher in people who observe nature. I can testify to that at least being partially true. I have been an avid observer of nature since my youth. That has sprouted into bird watching and a green thumb. In the past, healthcare professionals have been surprised by my high level of pain tolerance during birth and other health situations. However, I don't believe scientists know why that is the case as much as I do. As a child, I was taught that nature praised God. So, when observing the trees waving in the wind, I imagined their delight in their Creator. When birds would sing, I imagined their joy in songs to Him. Praising Jesus is my delight as well. All of my grief, sickness, pain, or suffering is made small in that moment. So, next time you hear a bird singing or see that flower shining in the sun, think of their joy in bringing a glimmer of His glory to your observation.
Psalm 96:11-12:
"Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that filleth it. Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice."
Psalm 19:1-2:
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge."
Revelation 4:11
"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
Psalm 148:2-7:
"Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the Lord from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the Lord: for he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. I will praise the Lord while I live: I will sing praises to my God while I have my being."
