Before the current Hinds County Courthouse rose downtown, an essential city service operated at the corner of Pascagoula and President streets —Jackson’s early ambulance service operated as part of Hardy Funeral Home.
In the early 1900s, these life-saving vehicles weren’t called ambulances at all, but “invalid carriages”. Long before modern emergency response as we know it today, these carriages were already playing a vital role in caring for the community.
Another fascinating glimpse into how Downtown Jackson has always been at the center of service, innovation and progress.
