September is Hunger Awareness Month! To help bring awareness of this, Society of St. Andrew is hosting its FIRST ANNUAL SQUASH JAM! On Saturday, September 14th, we will be gleaning squash on a 28 acre field outside of Mound Bayou Mississippi. The vegetables gleaned here will be taken to the Memphis Food Bank and distributed to those who are needy. OR, your church group or civic organization can take the squash back to your community and distribute it to those who are in need.

If you, your church group, or civic organization would like to participate in this wonderful event, please contact Jackie Usey at 769-233--0887 or Laura Sappington at 601-850-4018 to reserve your spot.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that the Society of St. Andrew announces a milestone in our fight against hunger. The highest monthly volume of food recovery was experienced in July with 1.4 million pounds gleaned and distributed. This makes a total of 2.064 million pounds given to the hungry and needy in 2013. This amazing feat was possible only with the help of our farmers, volunteers, and gracious donors. We could not have done this without you!

But, Society of St. Andrew needs your help to continue this worthwhile effort:

*Volunteers to give time to glean and distribute
*Tax deductible donations that continues to move nutritious produce with escalating costs of transportation
*Prayers for those in need and the growth of this ministry
*Work to accomplish our mission across the region

Our mission is to provide quality, nutritious produce to the hungry and those in need, This is accomplished through keeping costs as low as possible (3 cents per pound). With the rising costs of transportation and distribution, it is more important than ever to have your support!

Additionally, we seek opportunity to speak about the work of The Society of St. Andrew and the blessings extended in this region through our programs. To schedule a speaker for your church or organization, please contact our Development Coordinator, Laura Sappington at 601-850-4018. If your church group, feeding agency, or organization would like to volunteer at a gleaning, please contact our Program Coordinator, Jackie Usey at 769-233-0887.
