Lynch Lodge No 2

Lynch Lodge No 2 Member of MW Stringer Grand Lodge, Free & Accepted Mason, Prince Hall Affiliated, Jurisdiction of Mississippi. Lynch. Stringer, by a vote of 158 to 36.

Lynch Lodge No. 2 is named in honor of Reverend James D. Lynch Lodge No. 2 in Jackson, Mississippi is closely tied to the history of the community in which it was founded. Contributing factors to the development of the Lodge in the city of Jackson were the Church, the social and economical patterns of the day, and the politics of the newly freed slaves of African descendant in the 1860's. In 1869,

Lynch was elected Secretary of State, after defeating his convention rival, Dr. Thomas W. As a result, in the State of Mississippi, Lynch became the first African American official. In office, Lynch improved the public school system throughout the state and acquired support from whites. In 1871, Lynch was re-elected as Secretary of State. In 1872, he served as a delegate to the National Republican Convention. While in his second term, Lynch and his African American supporters, started to become disillusioned with the Reconstruction process, along with the increasing tension amongst the African American and white Republicans. July 7, 1920, several Lodges of the city of Jackson came together, agreed to join, and recognize Lynch Lodge #2 as the oldest and leading Lodge in the city of Jackson. Lynch Lodge is in the 9th district, which is the largest district in the state of Mississippi. Lynch Lodge has been very active in the community by participating in Habitat for Humanity and clothing drives. Lynch Lodge also conducts its annual Charity Bowling Tournament, with those funds being donated to local charities such as Operation Shoestring, Dress for Success, and Community Place Nursing Home just to name a few. Lynch Lodge is under the leadership of Worshipful Master Johnny Harper, Senior Warden Roderick Thompson, and Junior Warden James Hughes.
