The Or Project

The Or Project It's all about being or becoming the light for Christ in Jackson, MS. We also love the idea that with God's help, we can be lights too.

"Is it not to share your bread with the hungry
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him,
and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up speedily;
your righteousness shall go before you;
the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard." -Isaiah 58:7-8

Our project

was born out of a conviction that this specific passage provoked in us, and when reading through the passage, the word 'light' struck us. Light is a common theme throughout the whole book of Isaiah, and we love the imagery of God being a light that breaks through darkness like the rising sun breaks through the night. In the original Hebrew writings of Scripture, the word 'light' transliterated is 'or' and it literally translates to: to be or become light.

Our Story

“No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. We believe that the Lord has called us to serve those who live in the margins of life and to love those who are often ignored or overlooked in our own hometown; for us, this means serving and loving s*xually exploited women who are currently living in Jackson, MS.

Thus, The Or Project is a non-profit Christian ministry geared toward helping the s*x-workers of our city. Whether women are in the s*x industry against their will, (i.e. s*x-trafficking victims) or because they are doing it because they don’t think they can do anything else (s*x workers in clubs, prostitutes, etc) The Or Project offers education, safety, and the hope that is only found in Christ through intentional discipleship.
