Bike Walk Mississippi is dedicated to promoting bicycle safety for ALL! This fall, we will launch a new statewide education campaign focused on teaching motorists and law enforcement about bicycle safety laws and the importance of (and legal allowance for) vehicles changing lanes (when it is safe to do so) in order to safely pass a bicyclist on the road.

We are also looking for places that might welcome these trainings including the police academy and other officer trainings, driver's education courses and other workshops that might benefit from bicycle safety education. We welcome your suggestions of other places we might offer these trainings and are happy to partner with bike shops or clubs to help increase bicycle safety efforts in Mississippi!

May is National Bicycle Month and Bike Walk Mississippi is so honored to be your statewide bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group! This week includes Wednesday, 5/19 as the national ride of silence recognizing all those who have been killed or injured while riding a bicycle on the roads; the Ride of Silence is happening in cities and towns across Mississippi today.

In honor of Bike Month and our dedication to bicycle safety we thought today would be the perfect day to announce Bike Walk's new Bicycle Safety Ambassador, Ben McDonald!

Ben began his work as Bicycle Safety Ambassador for Bike Walk Mississippi this May when he joined the City of Ridgeland for it's proclamation of May as Bicycle Safety month and will also be a featured speaker tonight at the Ridgeland Ride of Silence at Northpark Mall.

Ben is originally from Clinton, Mississippi and has worked as a professional in the fitness industry since 2012. Ben enjoys a mix of swimming, running (trails & road) and all types of cycling - whether it's a group road ride, challenging mountain bike trails or commuting to work on a single speed. Ben has is a triathlete, marathon and ultra marathon runner and has finished 3 Ironmans! Ben is passionate that bicycles change lives and that more people on bicycles in Mississippi will make our state a better place to live, work, and play!

Ben will be managing our bicycle safety efforts across the state and he is eager to work with all of you! We could not be more thrilled to have Ben as the newest part of the Bike Walk team!
