The Supreme Court has issued a stay on the Fifth Circuit Court’s decision in Louisiana v. FDA. This means that access to mail-in abortion pills is temporarily restored until at least May 11.

While this is a welcome ruling from SCOTUS, it is not permanent. Patients shouldn’t have to worry about politically-motivated restrictions to gain access to safe, necessary care. For people living in states already hostile to abortion access, many of which are home to Black women and families, telehealth is essential to receiving the care they need. This stay protects access for now, but the threat isn’t going away. We will continue to work with lawmakers and fight to ensure this temporary decision becomes permanent.

Midwives provide vital, culturally reflective care. That’s why we need 1 million more.

Their work saves lives and improves health outcomes, particularly for Black and Indigenous birthing people and their infants. Yet aspiring midwives often face barriers to entering the field. State policymakers must support policies that help more midwives get licensed and provide care.
