We're excited to announce two more downtown Jackson historic preservation easements, the Coe House and the Ellen Walker Smart Shoppe. Coe House is located at 85 S. The Wort House easement is unprecedented. It's the first of our easements to use the Town of Jackson’s Historic Preservation Program. An easement makes the property owner eligible for preservation incentives such as the transfer of development rights (TDR), which allows development value to be captured and transferred. Teton Trust anticipates that this easement will pave the way for more projects.

Preservation easements are an effective and sustainable tool to ensure the preservation of community character in the face of development pressure. The Wort House is the fourth preservation easement in Teton County. The first three are on the Genevieve Block buildings known today as Persephone, Café Genevieve, and Healthy Being Juicery.

Historic preservation easements aren't sexy? How about federal tax deductions, local LDR flexibility, transfer of development rights, transfer of housing mitigation credits, funding for new cabin foundations, and free help from professional historic architects, the list goes on and on. Not every property will qualify for every incentive, but an easement begins the process.

This is a historic cabin built by Phil Baux in 1938. It's been moved around the valley for 85 years, serving many purposes. We believe this cabin should be preserved, protected, and rehabilitated to enrich a public space. What do you think?
