Proud to be a part of this important training exercise. Practice exercises like this prove invaluable in the event an actual accident in a similar circumstance would occur, and seconds count.❄️❄️❄️❄️

01-19-26 - NOTICE - Jackson Fire & EMS is performing rescue training on our trails tonight. This is only training! The trails are not open, and the crash is not real, regardless of what you'll hear on the scanner tonight. Thank you to the Jackson and neighboring communities' first responders for their dedication!!!❄️❄️❄️❄️

This one really hurts. Todd and the crew from Beechwood always have a large group that make the trek from Sheboygan to Cedarburg to support the Jackson Moonlighters at our annual Pancake Breakfast. On a personal side, I had many discussions with Todd about everything from trail maintenance, to grooming, to fundraising, and everything in-between. The snowmobiling community lost a great man last night, and he will be dearly missed by many. Our condolences to Todd's family, friends, and the Beechwood Night Fliers. --Moonlighters Pres. Trail Update 12-16-25

All trails in Washington County close at midnight tonight. Warm temps and mostly sunny conditions are forcing our hand in this decision. Clubs will assess trail conditions after this warm spell passes, but we will likely need more snow before conditions are favorable for opening again. Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy the trails around Washington County! Another huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers and landowners that made opening the trail system possible! Let's hope this is just the beginning of a great season of snowmobiling in SE Wisconsin! ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Trail Update 12-13-25 2:00PM
Here is the update everyone has been waiting for. As of 2PM today (Saturday), Jackson Moonlighters trails, and many trails around Washington County, will open. There are several trails outside of the Moonlighters trail system that will remain closed due to hunting, crops, open water, maintenance, etc. It is imperative that you check www.wcasc.com before heading out, so you do not find yourself riding on closed trails. There are trails closed in neighboring counties for the same reasons, so you must check those counties for the most current trail information.

Please note the following so everyone can have a safe and enjoyable ride:

- Early Trail Conditions - plowed fields are going to be rough until we get more snow. Always be aware of this when entering any farm field.

- Downed Trees - dead trees falling on the trails have been a huge issue the past few years, and will remain an issue into the future. Slow down, and be aware of the trail conditions ahead of you. If you come across a tree blocking the trail, please notify the club where the tree is located directly.

- Throttle Jockeys and Loud Mufflers - yes, we get it. Your sled has 1,000HP and you want the world to know about it. Take it to the track, or leave it on the trailer. Ripping up the trails that volunteers work so hard to maintain, and making sure people a couple of miles away can hear you, ruins it for everyone. This is a huge issue, and it has to stop. The actions of a few, ruin it for everyone, so don't be that individual.

Be smart. Ride right, ride safe, and enjoy your time out on the trails! ❄️❄️❄️❄️

The clubs of Washington County are working daily to address the last areas of concern.  The snows have fallen on unfrozen ground so our packing the trail along with each additional day of cold helps set the frost in, and gets us closer. Check back often for updates.

Trail Update 12-13-25 - 9:00AM
Jackson Moonlighters volunteers have been hard at work the past few weeks. A seemingly endless amount of dead fall trees have been cleared from our trail system. Fields have been marked in less than ideal conditions as soon as crops were harvested. Members have been out grooming the trail system multiple times in an effort to build frost and get the open water areas to freeze up. There are ongoing discussions with the Washington County Association of Snowmobile Clubs about opening, but as of this posting, trails in Washington County are still closed. We are hopeful that this will change soon, so, as usual, check the wcasc.com website often for updates. And as always, make sure you check on the trail status of everywhere you plan on riding.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to our hardworking Moonlighters that have worked countless hours to get our trail system ready, and our landowners that make our trail system possible. 🫡👏❄️❄️❄️❄️

There have been some questions recently looking for more information regarding roller design and advantages over a conventional drag in certain conditions. Rollers are a far more efficient method of compacting swamp grass and cattails in lowland areas to promote frost development in areas where a solid frost base is usually hard to find. Dry or "loose" snow is another area where drags tend to struggle, as the snow has a tendency to spill around the side of the pan, instead of compacting on the trail under the pan. But one of the biggest advantages, is what you see in the picture below. The profile the roller leaves behind, namely, the ridges created between the tires of the style roller we are using. Those ridges promote drifting on the trail, which helps increase base depth even when new snow is not falling. The drifting you see in the picture, formed in less than an hour, so on the return trip, much of that snow will be compacted by the roller, adding to the base depth, just with the help of the wind. ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Trail Update 12-04-25

Well, how about that. One week after Thanksgiving, and the trail updates are starting. A very important reminder though, all Washington County trails remain closed until further notice. Clubs are working overtime clearing downed trees from the recent wind storm, staking/signing trails through fields that were recently harvested, and grooming trails to start building a base, and hopefully, build some frost in the lowlands & swamps.

In the picture below, you're looking at the new UTV and roller as they were both going out on their maiden voyage this week. So far, the combination has been working well. The roller is doing an excellent job of packing down the swamp grass, cattails, and dry snow, which should facilitate additional frost formation.

Club meeting is tonight at 7PM at the Jackson Town Hall on Hwy. G (Division Rd.)

Hopefully, mother nature cooperates, and we can announce a trail open date in the near future. Keep doing your snow dances, and see you tonight at the meeting! ❄️❄️❄️❄️
