Today, we were proud to join Atmos Energy on the steps of the Mississippi State Capitol to announce a $10,000 sponsorship supporting children’s literacy through the Mississippi Book Festival.

This partnership will help us celebrate Curious George’s 85th birthday at the 2026 Festival with a special reading and hands-on constellation telescope activity—and extend our Turn the Page program, bringing free books and an author experience directly to those in attendance at this year's festival!

We’re grateful to Atmos Energy for helping us put more books into the hands of Mississippi children and create opportunities for young readers to imagine, explore, and discover. 💛📖🔭

On Saturday, September 26, enjoy a day of sharing stories, celebrating books, and exploring new worlds. It’s a literary lawn party made for everyone, with books to match every personality. The variety is vast, and the experience is FREE. All you have to do is show up!

Yesterday at the Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University in Cleveland, author and illustrator Matt Phelan spent the day with elementary students, reading from his books Bartleby and Leave It to Plum, drawing characters, and giving students a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process.

What better way to inspire young readers than to let them see how a story goes from an idea to the page? 💛

Ten more writers have joined the 2026 lineup, and they widen the day in every direction. Their books run from memoir and biography to Mississippi history, watercolor, the natural world, a middle-grade adventure, and more. Each author comes to the festival ready to talk about their book and the work behind it.

They will be in Jackson at the State Capitol on Saturday, September 26.
