Happy World Bee Day 🐝!!!!!
These are my two most frequently used questions when talking to groups about pollinators.
When I am talking to students about the importance of pollinators; The apple that you all ate for lunch? Where did those apples come from? (I get the......are you serious look) followed with uhhhh / duh Meijer!!!
Then for adults, do you remember the amount of bugs that were smeared accross your windshield/ bumper/bug deflector on a mid summer nights drive or while you were washing your car say 20, 30, 40 years ago? (A TON!) NOW, is not even a comparison! And those little guys are very beginning foundational building blocks used in harmony to further promote the symbiotic life cycle that brings us fresh yummy delicious foods!
Did you know.....

Beekeepers have the longest life expectancy of any career?
Michigan is #2 in the nation for the amount of diversified produce grown in Michigan!
A Rusty Patch Bumblebee was discovered last summer near Kalamazoo, but before that it was not officially spotted in over decades.
Several pollinator species are in endangered!
We can help pollinators by;
Watching and being mindful of harsh chemical usage or dependance which includes insecticides, pesticides, and herbicides.
Create a pollinator garden to provide nectar and pollen for bees throughout the whole season!
Leave habitat at rest for solitary and native bees!
