Last week was Holy Trinity Sunday. We honored and glorified the True Triune God. Triune means three in one. We have three “persons” but only one God. This is a mystery beyond our understanding. But the lesson it teaches us, we can understand. We learn from the Holy Trinity the lesson of unity and community. We are created in the image of God, so we are created for unity and community, sharing the love of God.

Today we learn that God calls ordinary people to step out in faith and follow where God leads. Both readings for today teach us about a moving, active faith. But not because we have all the answers but that we can trust in God and take the next step. They also reveal a God who welcomes the outsider, meets people in their need, offers new beginnings, and calls us to live lives marked by mercy, compassion, and courageous discipleship.

During the month of April, New Hope’s Mission Forward team organized a food drive to support Decorah Elementary School’s Backpack Friday program. Thank you to all New Hope members who participated and contributed!

📣 “On behalf of Decorah Elementary School, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your generous donation of snacks and ready-to-heat items for our Backpack Friday Program. Your kindness and support make a meaningful difference for the 40 families currently enrolled in the program. Last week we celebrated Pentecost. This was essentially the birthday of the Church. Jesus had ascended into heaven leaving the disciples behind, or so they thought. Jesus promised them The Helper, The Holy Spirit to guide and lead them as they follow Jesus’ command to share the Gospel and grow the Church on earth. That same Holy Spirit dwells within all believers to continue the mission until Jesus returns.

This Sunday is Holy Trinity Sunday. This is the Sunday that pastors try to explain the unexplainable. How can we have one God and at the same time three “Persons”, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? That isn’t what we need to understand though. Today is a lesson in unity as believers, as the Church, and ultimately as the world. God teaches His imperfect children about unity through the perfect example of the Triune God.
